“If you use your computer more than once a day, leave it on at least all day,” said Leslie, “If you use it in the morning and at night, you can leave it on overnight as well. If you use your computer for only a few hours once a day, or less often, turn it off when you are done.”

Deep sleep stage

When you close the lid on your mobile PC, Windows can shut down, do nothing, or enter a power-saving state, such as sleep or hibernation. Open Power Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Power Options.
If you don't see the battery icon, click on “Show Hidden Icons” and then right-click on the battery icon—or head to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options instead. However, it is important to understand that whenever you close the lid of your laptop without shutting it down, it can be configured at any time. Most laptops have certain default settings such as sleep mode. This is safe to do, plus you get relief from rebooting the system all over again.
Using a Windows laptop with an external monitor. Go to the Control Panel and run the applet called Power Options. Click the Advanced tab on the properties sheet, and look for the section that says: "When I close the lid of my portable computer". Click the down arrow for the list of options, and select "Do nothing".
Navigate to Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options and then click on Change plan settings, next to your default power plan. Alternatively, you can just type change power-saving settings in the Search tab in the start menu and click on the option that shows up.
