Check the paper, and then reload it

To resolve this issue, use only genuine HP cartridges. Additionally, you can remove the black cartridge to print only with the tri-color cartridge, replace any empty or defective cartridges, or clean the printhead.
Take a warm damp paper towel or coffee filter and blot the cartridge with the printhead facing down onto the paper towel. This will remove any dried ink on the printhead. Then, hold the cartridge with the printhead facing down against a dry paper towel for 2-3 minutes. A dry paper towel will wick the ink out.
On the Device Services tab, click Align the Print Cartridges. The Align the Print cartridges dialog box opens. Click Align, and then follow the on-screen instructions. The product prints an alignment page, aligns the cartridges, and calibrates the printer.
Ink cartridges can dry out over time. If they are sitting in your machine for an extended period, they will eventually dry up and become unusable. We recommend printing once every couple of weeks to keep your ink cartridges operating smoothly. A printhead cleaning can usually get an idle cartridge up and running again.
- Power the printer off completely.
- While the power is off, simultaneously hold down the Menu>, Go, and Select buttons.
- While still holding down the buttons, power the printer back on. Release the buttons when Restoring Factory Defaults appears on the display.
- Allow the printer to warm up as normal.
The best way to fix this is to change the printers type of paper to “ANY.” This way even if your computer sends a different “TYPE” it will print. Another possibility is the paper tray guides are not set to the correct length.
If your printer's status displays "Printer in error state," there may be a problem with the printer itself. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your PC by Wi-Fi or cable. Check it for low paper or ink, and be sure the cover isn't open and the paper isn't jammed.
On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon. Swipe up on the display, and then touch Tray and Paper Management. Touch Tray Management, touch Default Tray and then touch Tray 2.
