Dally then felt like it was his purpose to save Johnny's "innocence" (his emotions, thoughts etc.) from the cruel things they had to endure. When he failed at this, his guilt took over and he then killed himself (by the hand of another).
After Dally (Dallas) died, why did Ponyboy pass out? Because he had a concussion.
Ponyboy can't accept Johnny's death because he was too young. Also because he was still in shock. Ponyboy collapses the night of the rumble because he got kicked in the head and got a concussion.
Dally gets shot by police while the rest of The Greasers rush to his rescue. Unfortunately they are too late.
He is killed by Johnny Cade. Bob Sheldon and his goons attacked Ponyboy and Johnny one night, and Bob nearly drowned Ponyboy. The only reason Ponyboy survived the encounter was because Johnny killed Bob to protect his fellow Greaser.
2) What do Johnny's last words mean? Right before he dies in the hospital, Johnny says “Stay gold, Ponyboy.” Ponyboy cannot figure out what Johnny means until he reads the note Johnny left. Johnny writes that “stay gold” is a reference to the Robert Frost poem Ponyboy shared when they were hiding at the church.
Gallant. Who gets sick and passes out after Dally dies? Ponyboy. Who is sleeping in the chair beside Ponyboy when he wakes up in Chapter 10 after the rumble?
Ponyboy had two older brothers, Johnny had no one but Dally.
Sandy, Sodapop's girlfriend, gets pregnant and moves to Florida with her grandmother. Sodapop writes to her, but his letters return unopened.
Ponyboy states on page 24, "You just didn't tell Dally Winston what to do." List textual evidence that shows Dally was upset when Johnny told him to leave Cherry alone. He was upset because Johnny looks up to him. Dally has seen people killed on the streets of New York's West Side.
Tim Shepherd is looking for Dally in Chapter 2 because someone slashed the tires on his car, and Tim's brother Curly "spotted Dally doing it". Two-Bit figures that if it's a fair fight, Dally "deserves whatever he gets", because it takes a lot of hard work to get the money to replace tires, and because he got caught.
- Cherry and Marcia left their dates because their dates wanted to get drunk, and they were worried about the amount of things that could happen when they were drunk and that it wasn't fun. She also didn't want to get in trouble if a fight were to break out.
Why was Johnny's face in such a bad shape after getting jumped by the Socs? One of the Socs wore rings on every finger. At the end of the chapter, Ponyboy thinks about the "problems" the Socs have.
What made Johnny's eyes glow with pride? The Greasers put up a good fight. Dallas said he was proud of him. Ponyboy said he was his best friend.
What does Darry scold Ponyboy for doing in bed after the rumble? By telling Darry he will try to be more careful.
After Johnny's death and Dally's departure, Ponyboy wanders through the hospital's halls in a daze. Pony is in denial about Johnny's death, and keeps repeating that he isn't dead. He leaves the hospital and roams the streets until a stranger picks him up and drives him home.
Ponyboy hoped that Bob's parents hated him and the other greasers because he would rather have their hate than their pity. Ponyboy despises "that pity-the-victims-of-environment junk" because it demeans him and the greasers, he "would much rather have anybody's hate than their pity".
Q. Who is delusional about Johnny's death? Randy.
Dally has always watched out for Johnny in fights, and when Johnny dies, Dally feels he has nothing left that's good in his life. Dally forces the police to kill him because of this. Johnny admires Dally as a hero, and Dally enjoys this admiration and enjoys having someone to take care of and look out for.
Ponyboy explains that his dreams and his imagination are able to convince him that Johnny isn't dead. Ponyboy's denial of Johnny's death is a reflection of Ponyboy's pain and sense of loss.
1) How does Dally die? The policemen kill Dally. After Johnny dies in the hospital, Dally is so upset, he runs away from Ponyboy and robs a grocery store. The police chase him to the empty lot where the greasers hang out.
The reason that Ponyboy says that he killed Bob is because he is traumatized. Ponyboy is more than likely suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and is confused about what happened the night that Johnny stabbed Bob. Ponyboy has just witnessed the death of his two friends and is not mentally healthy.
What is the difference between Dally and Johnny's death? There is no difference they were both greasers meaning it does not matter. Johnny died a hero and Dally died a hoodlum.
Dally didn't die a hero. He died violent and young and desperate, just like we all knew he'd die someday.
Ponyboy tells the readers, "If it hadn't been for the gang, Johnny would never have known what love and affection are." Johnny idolizes gang member Dallas Winston. Dally is living proof that one can survive without parents or family.
Johnny Cade is not guilty of murder because he was defending not only his life but the life of another human being as well. He was in a threatening situation, living in a violent home with abusive parents, and he was defending Ponyboy Curtis.
Johnny's Sense Of WorthJohnny saved the kids because it was the right thing to do. It would've been very hard for him to live with himself if he hadn't tried to help and the kids had then died.
Johnny thinks that he is a hero because if Dally didn' t give them the gun and money, if they got in a fight they would have nothing to fight back with to protect them.
For a member of a fairly hardened and violent gang, Johnny Cade is generally quiet and passive. He is the son of an abusive home; therefore, he doesn't spend much time at home. His "family" is the Greasers, and the Greasers know this. They watch over him like a lost puppy or a vulnerable little brother.
