“Sonny†was born Dec. 4, 1918 in Brooklyn, the son of Capone's Irish wife, Mae Coughlin. At 7, he developed an infection that left him partially deaf.
Capone Meets Johnny TorrioTorrio was running a numbers and gambling operation near Capone's home when Capone began running small errands for him. Although Torrio left Brooklyn for Chicago in 1909, the two remained close.
If Dillon's character were based on a real person, it would likely be Johnny Torrio, the mobster who served as a mentor to Capone. But Dillion's character is more likely a composite character, inspired by various pieces of mafia lore.
John "Johnny" Torrio (played by Greg Antonacci) is an established crime boss based out of Chicago and employer/mentor to Al Capone. After an assassination attempt on his life, his position is inherited by Capone.
The hotel closed in 1980. On April 21, 1986, locked vaults found in the hotel were subject to a live television program called The Mystery of Al Capone's Vaults, which received 30 million viewers.

Nitti died Sunday in John F.Kennedy Hospital. He was employed by the sewer department for 38 years. He retired in 1986.
His wealth in 1927 was estimated at close to $100 million. The most notorious of the bloodlettings was the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, in which seven members of Bugs Moran's gang were machine-gunned in a garage on Chicago's North Side on February 14, 1929.
