I personally would let a nine year old watch it, but that's because the nine year olds I know are used to curse words and violence. If you would rather your nine year old would be kept from cussing and blood, don't let them watch Stranger Things. And I wouldn't blame you.

I am 11 years old but rated it 12+ because I know that most of my friends will not be capable of watching this movie. It has an extreme amount of swearing but as you continue watching the movie, you learn to block it out.
This series has extreme violence, torture, horrors of war, sex, gang rape and mature themes that are not suitable for children. Its a great series, but is certainly not for children. I recommend 16+, though a mature teenager at 14-15 could also handle these books on a case by case basis.
The only reason it has maintained it's TV-14 rating and not an MA is because the violence and gore is mostly shown in the dark and is science fiction, fantasy and horror based. Although nothing too shocking some of it is still graphic especially in the second half of season 3.
