parkrun is a very simple concept: turn up every Saturday and run 5km, or if you're a junior then 2km every Sunday. There are now parkrun events each Saturday and Sunday in countries all around the world. Each event is based in a unique location like a park, beach or promenade.
Much like Spain, parkrun fever has yet to arrive in Portugal at time of writing, however we wouldn't be at all surprised to see the launch of the parkrun brand and its events in the not too distant future.

Our first ever event was in Bushy park, Teddington, UK, where 13 intrepid parkrunners got together on 2 October 2004. The volunteer team included Paul and Joanne Sinton-Hewitt, Duncan Gaskell, Simon Hedger and Robin Drummond. It took nearly two years before parkrun spread beyond Bushy.
Using data from parkrun performances in the last 12 months, the Victoria Dock and Hackney Marshes events in London were deemed the quickest courses, closely followed by Worthing in Sussex, Pegwell Bay in Kent and the Eden Project in Cornwall.

The official world records in the 5000 metres are held by Joshua Cheptegei with 12:35.36 for men and Letesenbet Gidey with 14:06.62 for women. In Wales there are 29 senior parkrun's and 12 junior parkruns and all these events take place stunning locations that are safe (car free) and easily accessible to all.

Parkrun events are held at more than 40 locations across Melbourne plus regional centres. Each run, irrespective of the location is 5 kilometres in distance and starts at 8am every Saturday. Once you have registered once, you can participate, at any pace, against the clock at any event location.
In Belfast there are seven parkruns, with two junior parkruns (2km runs on Sunday mornings for 4-14 year olds). London is home to a number of flat courses so there are plenty of places that can help your chances of a new PB, but the absolute flattest with just eight feet (2.4m) of undulation – according to these elevation rankings – is Hackney Marshes.

RESTART POSTPONED TO 26th JUNE 2021Over the past four weeks, parkrun HQ have been discussing the return of parkrun in England with hundreds of landowners across the country. Unfortunately parkrun HQ haven't received approval for enough events yet, so the target date for restarting has been changed to 26th June.

You can run, jog or walk the course. To register with us please head to and select your country. Then click register from the top right menu and fill in the form. Finally await your confirmation email containing your barcode, print it out and remember to bring it with you when you run.
junior parkruns are running, jogging and walking events, and the use of children's scooters, balance bikes, trikes or cycles is prohibited. junior parkruns are timed events. Only those aged between 4 to 14 years old completing the course themselves will be given a result.
At your own pace, go for a jog on the quays of the Seine, a few steps from the historic centre or along the meanders of the Seine. There are also fitness trails, walking trails ideal for running and even jogging trails to guide your sports activity.
We run in most weather, but we will cancel an event if we feel it would be unsafe (for example, because of ice or very strong winds). An event could also be cancelled if there is another event taking place at the course.
