Gallup's updated Migrant Acceptance Index ranks North Macedonia, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro – southeast European countries that along with Greece and Italy faced the initial waves of refugees – as the least-accepting countries for migrants.
Since 2014, more than 4,000 fatalities have been recorded annually on migratory routes worldwide. The number of deaths recorded, however, represent only a minimum estimate because the majority of migrant deaths around the world go unrecorded. Since 1996, more than 75,000 migrant deaths have been recorded globally.
All across the United States.Refugees have been resettled in 49 U.S. states, with Texas, Washington and Ohio resettling the most refugees in FY 2018.

In 2019, more than two-thirds of all refugees came from just five countries: Syria, Venezuela, Afghanistan, South Sudan and Myanmar. Syria has been the main country of origin for refugees since 2014 and at the end of 2019, there were 6.6 million Syrian refugees hosted by 126 countries worldwide.

Japan accepts only a handful of the thousands of individuals who apply for refugee status in the country each year. In 2020, it recognized a total of 47 refugees, putting it at odds with other leading democratic countries who accept tens of thousands of applicants each year.
Refugees are usually outside of the United States when they are screened for resettlement, whereas asylum seekers submit their applications while they are physically present in the United States or at a U.S. port of entry.
Where are Syrian refugees going? The majority of Syria's 6.6 million refugees, about 5.6 million, have fled — by land and sea — across borders to neighboring countries but remain in the Middle East. Turkey — 3.6 million Syrian refugees are in Turkey.
The most important factors are (1) armed conflict, (2) ethnic intolerance, (3) religious fundamentalism, and (4) political tensions. The influx of refugees, irregular and transit migrations came to Turkey particularly from the Middle East (Iraq) starting from 1980s.
Germany's decision to admit one million refugees. Prior to 2015, the number of people applying for asylum in Germany was relatively low (see figure 1). Arrivals predominantly came from seven countries: Iraq, Turkey, Russia, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Serbia, and Syria.

Those rights in the UN Refugee Convention essentially highlight that refugees who are fleeing to a different country should have freedom to work, freedom to move, freedom to access education, and basic other freedoms that would allow them to live their lives normally, just like you and me.
Seeking asylumWhen a person's refugee visa has been granted and they have been offered resettlement, they are usually given a flight and arrive in Australia by plane. The majority of refugees in the world are unaware that they may be eligible to apply for resettlement in a third country.
