The family of Ollivander has long been associated with the mysterious profession of wandcraft. It is said that the name means 'he who owns the olive wand', which suggests that the original Ollivander arrived in Britain from a Mediterranean country (olive trees not being native to the UK).
Quirinus Quirrell was born presumably before 26 September, 1970, somewhere in the British Isles, to at least one magical parent. He also had some muggle heritage. Quirinus attended Hogwarts, where he was Sorted into Ravenclaw House.
Hagrid attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1940 and was sorted into Gryffindor house. In Hagrid's third year, he was framed by Tom Riddle for the crime of opening the Chamber of Secrets and using his pet Acromantula to attack several Muggle-born students and eventually killing one of them.

In 1945 (a purposely symbolic year, per J.K. Rowling), Albus challenged his old friend to a duel and claimed the Elder Wand for himself. Grindelwald was sentenced to a lifetime in Nurmengard prison. He died there when he refused to give up Dumbledore's grave as the location of the wand to Voldemort.

Following the capture of Ollivander, Voldemort hunted down Mykew Gregorovitch down over the course of the next few months. He found Gregorovitch in his wand shop and, after using a spell to discard several wands, cornered the latter, using two spells to keep him from escaping.
