Apple's reputation and brand allow it to charge a premium for its high-end products like the iPhone 11 Pro Max. And adding memory or storage to these products increases the cost even more. Because of this "Apple Tax" Apple products are often more expensive than its competitors.

Upgrading your MacBook is easy. Just make sure you don't lose those tiny screws. Buying a used computer and upgrading it can get you most of the power you need at a fraction of the price (and environmental cost) of a new machine.
I have a MacBook Pro 2020, can I upgrade it's ram or hard drive? Answer: A: Answer: A: No, they are not upgradeable after purchase.
MacBook Air: Most models from 2017 or older have hard drive upgrade options. MacBook Pros: Both 13-inch and 15-inch models 2015 and older can be upgraded. Non-Retina MacBook Pro units up to late 2016 may also have an option, but most units from 2016 on are very limited on both upgrades and replacement options.
Apple said that would run happily on a late 2009 or later MacBook or iMac, or a 2010 or later MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini or Mac Pro. This means that if your Mac is older than 2012 it won't officially be able to run Catalina or Mojave.
No current MacBook Pro is officially upgradeable. Apple still sells the 2012 MacBook Pro which has user upgradeable RAM and HDD, but I do not consider it a current machine nor do I recommend that anyone buy it, so it doesn't fit the bill.
Recently, Apple stopped displaying the 2012 MacBook Pro in their stores, signaling that it will probably be discontinued. Cries of disappointment that the last upgradable MacBook was going away erupted. However, beyond the very tiny niche of people, most people never upgrade.
