South Dakota state law restricts when fireworks can be used, from June 27 through July 5, but do not include any other restrictions. However, the state does allow local governments to set their own fireworks regulations.
Fireworks are considered hazardous materials on aircraft, and federal regulations ban even the smallest sparklers. Because of this danger, domestic and international regulations prohibit passengers from carrying fireworks and firework novelty items in their checked baggage, carry-on baggage, or on their persons.
An approximately 20 minute lighting ceremony will include a ranger talk, playing of the national anthem, lighting of the memorial and a flag folding demonstration. You do not need a reservation for any programs at Mount Rushmore, including the Evening Lighting Ceremony.
Obviously, you're not allowed to detonate fireworks in a national park. However, the law also prohibits park visitors from having fireworks in their possession at any time during their stay. “Fireworks†in this instance refers to any type of combustible noise-maker — even sparklers and other 'minor league' models.

It lasts about an hour and usually starts at dusk.
The visitor facilities at Mount Rushmore National Memorial are open all year, seven days a week, with the exception of December 25th.

Mount Rushmore is very popular, with peak visitation during June, July, and August. The best time to visit, though, is September and October, with April and May as alternatives. Although spring months can be wet and cold, the Black Hills' dry weather patterns make fall visits ideal.
Planning Your VisitThe night program at Mount Rushmore is held in the Lincoln Borglum Visitor Center amphitheater each night from late May through September. Check the park newspaper or at the Visitor's Center help desk for the start time.
There is no entrance fee for Mount Rushmore National Memorial. However, fees are required to park at the memorial. Parking fee for Seniors, 62 and older, is $5 and Active Duty Military parking is free.
Is Mount Rushmore worth it? Ultimately, yes it is. History buffs can read all the exhibits and learn about the history of Mount Rushmore and its four presidents. You'll get to see an American landmark and check it off your travel bucket list.
Currently, all National Parks including Mount Rushmore National Memorial are under a mask-mandate. Masks are voluntary and MAY BE required per individual business policies.
