Ride the Lights, the BIG FREE annual preview of Blackpool Illuminations is BACK in 2021! Sadly, it was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic… It's the special car-free night, just before the big Illuminations Switch On.
Ride the Lights is the fabulous, traffic free way to preview the Illuminations! Get on your push bike or pull on your walking shoes for the brilliant car free evening at Blackpool Illuminations. It's usually held on Tuesday night the week before Switch On.
Blackpool Illuminations will return for its grand Switch-On on 3 September. We're extending the season for the second consecutive year, shining every night until 3 January 2022.
An exciting preview of Blackpool Illuminations is officially taking place on 31 August 2021.
Blackpool Illuminations take place on the Fylde Coast, and is 10km long. It begins at Squires Gate, and ends at Red Bank Road. Visitors can experience the Illuminations on-foot, or by car.
2020's biggest breakthrough artist, KSI, and one of the UK's most successful indie bands, The Wombats, performed in the world-famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom on the night of Friday 3 September to mark the start of a four-month extended Illuminations season.
The event starts from 7.30pm, with the first fireworks firing from approximately 8:30pm*. Please note that due to the popularity of the World Fireworks Championship Blackpool, there may be traffic delays arriving and leaving the event.

They are 6.2 miles (10 km) long and use over one million bulbs. The display stretches along the Promenade from Starr Gate at the south end of the town to Bispham in the north.

The festival, which will take place between October 15 and 30, boasts amazing light-based art installations from national and international artists.
Central Car Park – where the coach park facilities are near to Coral Island. Lonsdale Road Car Park – near to Blackpool Football Club. Cocker Square – heading north past North Pier on the edge of a small surface car park. At Gynn roundabout there are toilets on the seaside of the promenade.
