Stores closing in 2020: The last of 200Drugstore chain Walgreens has been taking a big dose of downsizing. The company announced in the summer of 2019 that it would shut down about 200 of its U.S. stores, and that work is still going on.
Walgreens announced in August that it planned to close 200 US locations under a multiyear cost-cutting program. The new round of closings is in addition to a previously announced cut of 750 US stores, which Walgreens has said it expects to complete by the end of this year.
Upon completion of the merger, Rite Aid will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Walgreens Boots Alliance, and is expected to initially operate under its existing brand name.
