Tires come with their own valves, so you will only need around 4 CFM to reliably run a tire inflator and have it work with a wide variety of tires. Most passenger cars recommend 32 to 35 PSI, as well, so you can easily fill up most vehicles with your typical 90 PSI compressor.
In the simplest terms, here's how you can picture the difference between SCFM and CFM. CFM is Cubic Feet per Minute, while SCFM is Standard Cubic Feet per Minute. 2. SCFM is the volumetric flow rate against a standard, whereas there's no standard for CFM.

For your home automotive shop, the best bet is to shop in the 20- to 30-gallon range. These tend to not only have the power you need but also the reserve air that allows you to do some of the higher-volume tasks like running a die-grinder or cut-off tool.
The rule of thumb is that you need at least 1 CFM per square foot of room area. To determine the square footage of your bathroom, multiply the length times the width. For example, if your bathroom is 6 feet wide and 9 feet long, its square footage is 54. Therefore, it should have a fan rated for at least 54 ?CFM.
60-gallon air compressors are powerful enough to handle big jobs and are equipped to be able to run for a long time. Some of them are specifically designed for industrial jobs, and some are better for home DIY uses.

Psi usually isn't a factor
Most compressors provide plenty of pressure for DIY tools and tasks. But a higher max psi does have one real benefit: It allows a smaller tank to hold more air and perform like a bigger tank.
