Gyarados is a potent physical sweeper, and can sometimes run stally sets if you train him right, but is better suited to the “crush enemies, take names” mantra. Lapras is MUCH bulkier than Gyarados, so it can't take far more hits. It also has better special attack, and a great STAB combination.

- First, go to Celadon City Arcade (I forgot what it was called so I call it that), then go into the Team Rocket Base. Succeeding to beat Archer and Giovanni will make Jessie and James go to Silph Co, then knocking the team rocket grunt out, granting you entry into Silph Co.
- Thanks.
You will have to head to Saffron City and you will notice that the town has been taken over by Team Rocket. The Silph Co building has also been taken over by the bad guys and you'll see Jesse and James when you head there. You will have to beat a Team Rocket Grunt and then you'll get in.
Best moveset for LaprasThe best moves for Lapras are Water Gun and Surf when attacking Pokémon in Gyms. This move combination has the highest total DPS and is also the best moveset for PVP battles.
The Fighting Dojo and the Saffron Gym once competed against each other to determine which one would be Saffron City's Gym. Due to the type advantage that the Saffron Gym's Psychic-type Pokémon had over the Dojo's Fighting-type Pokémon, Saffron Gym easily won and became the official Gym.
After defeating him, you will be able to take a free Hitmonlee (left PokeBall) or Hitmonchan (right PokeBall). After this, it's time to go to the real gym to get your fifth badge. The real gym is right next door of the Fighting Dojo.
Lapras it has high health and can learn thunder, psychic and surf making it a good all round pokemon. Psychic and Thunder are bad moves on it. Any pokemon is almost unbeatable ingame if the level is high enough, but levels aside, Lapras is far from unbeatable.
In order to get Lapras, you will need to head to the Wild Area - specifically the Lake of Outrage. As it is swimming in the water, you can not approach it from land or with a fishing rod; you will need to use your bike to swim over the water.
Lapras is unique in that it will appear every Friday within the Union Cave's Basement. Even if you capture it the previous week, another will appear the Friday afterwards. You need Surf to reach the Lapras so you cannot get it until after you have beaten Morty.

Once Silph Co. is freed and Saffron City saved, find this man standing with his Porygon just to the left of the Pokemon Center out in Saffron City. He'll give you the Porygon as thanks for all you've done.
It's honestly an oddity that Lapras is as good as it is. If you want to use Lapras properly, you need to strategize around them. This does mean it's one of the more high maintenance “strong” Pokémon on this list, but it is worth using thanks to high CP, balanced stats, and some surprisingly strong moves.

By achieving high Catch Combos, you can increase your chances of finding rare Pokémon in the wild, shiny Pokémon, or strong Pokémon. As you reach certain thresholds of Catch Combos, you'll notice the Pokémon appearing around you on the map start to change.
Lapras. Lapras was just made for riding, and after getting one from a man in Silph Co., you can pull it up while Sea Skimming and skim in style.
When you are looking to catch a Lapras, make sure to look around large bodies of water such as rivers, lakes, and oceans. Since it is a water type Pokemon, it has the highest spawn rate in these locations.
