Zentangle is completed with black ink and shading with no color. A Zen doodle uses small drawings or doodles that are surrounded by repetitive patterns that bring the doodles together.

Tangles often have specific names and ways of drawing each pattern, in fact, there are books filled with tangle patterns! The act of creating a Zentangle is called 'tangling' and is a form of meditative art, where the artist focusses on creating each single line rather than a particular image.
Editors Contribution. Zentangle. Zentangle is a form of meditative doodling that has patterns, or tangles, put together to form a Zen-tangle.
Although we did like the word “tangle” to describe our new method of drawing patterns. As we played with words that rhymed with "tangle", one of us said “Zentangle.” It was like finally putting on a shoe that fits after trying on many ill-fitting ones. All at once, we both exclaimed, “That's It!”
Zentangle art is spontaneous and free-flowing so you can focus on each stroke and not worry about the result. Think of it as meditative doodling. You can learn different tangles and string them together to create detailed drawings on small squares of paper called tiles.
The following are Art Principals used in the Zentangle process:
- balance.
- contrast.
- pattern.
- rhythm.
- repetition.
- unity.
Zentangle Doodle Mandala it is Zenart? Zenart, as a meditative drawing of patterns, is quite simple, accessible and variable. This can be a clear patented drawing of zentangles, and endless doodling, and the creation of circular patterns-mandalas.
People practicing Zentangle have found that it has increased self-confidence, relieved stress and anxiety, improved eye-hand coordination, nurtured and developed creativity and the list goes on.
What is Zentangle® and what is Zendoodle? Short answer: “Zentangle” is a registered name for a process of drawing (hence the ® above). There are some specific parts to it (a few are mentioned below). A Zendoodle is basically the same idea, but without some of the confinements of a Zentangle (also called a tangle).
What is Stendoodling? Well to create a Stendoodle you use a stencil or mask to create a shape (eg: a feather), you then use another stencil to create sections within that shape (eg: sun rays) and finally, use smaller stencils (and a fine marker) to create patterns (doodles) within each section.
The verb, drawing, means to produce a picture or diagram. Drawing is a work of visual art — the result of a productive (hence, the work) process — whereas doodling is not. So while drawing and doodling are both the result of mark-making, drawing takes it up several levels.
Doodle art is underrated as an art form. It's a fun way of expressing yourself, but is also a brilliant way of experimenting and learning to draw. Doodles give a unique insight into your artistic style, conveying parts of your personality not shown through other mediums of art.
