Flag Day was first celebrated in 2013. The idea was conceived by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, to celebrate the accession of Sheikh Khalifa as President of the UAE in 2004. It is commemorated every year on the anniversary, November 3. It is not a public holiday.
Used at all national events, religious, social, sports and others, internally and externally, the flag represents UAE citizens and the values such as dignity, pride, achievement, safety, peace, and happiness. The original Pan-Arab colours symbolize Arabian Unity.
To be on the safer side, you should consider the following when handling the UAE flag: Do not let the flag touch the ground. Don't fly the flag in the dark. Never hang the flag upside down.
Today, Flag Day is celebrated with parades, essay contests, ceremonies, and picnics sponsored by veterans' groups, schools, and groups like the National Flag Day foundation whose goal is to preserve the traditions, history, pride, and respect that are due the nation's symbol, Old Glory.
It consists of a golden falcon (Hawk of Quraish) with a disk in the middle, which shows the UAE flag and seven stars representing the seven Emirates of the federation.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE; Arabic: ???????? ??????? ??????? al-ʾImārāt al-ʿArabīyah al-Mutta?idah), sometimes simply called the Emirates (Arabic: ???????? al-ʾImārāt), is a country in Western Asia located at the eastern end of the Arabian Peninsula.
The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise. The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free. The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored so that it might be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.
The FBI rep said there is no law against flying the flag upside down. The Flag Code clearly states that the American flag is not to be flown upside down "except as a signal of dire distress in instance of extreme danger to life or property."
Today we need to truly appreciate living in this country. Life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness -- whatever America means to you is symbolized by the stars and stripes, and we should feel a sense of pride and gratitude every time we salute Old Glory.
According to the U.S. Flag Code, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning”. While this is the preferred way to dispose a flag, it can also be dangerous.
The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life. The second fold is a symbol of our belief in eternal life. The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veteran departing our ranks, and who gave a portion of his or her life for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world.
The UAE consists of seven emirates and was founded on 2 December 1971 as a federation. Six of the seven emirates (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah) combined on that date. The seventh, Ras al Khaimah, joined the federation on 10 February 1972.
Before its re-creation as the United Arab Emirates in 1971, the UAE was known as the Trucial States, a collection of sheikhdoms extending from the Straits of Hormuz to the west along the Persian Gulf.
Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was the UAE's founding father and widely credited with unifying the seven emirates into one country. He was the UAE's first president, from the UAE's founding until his death on 2 November 2004.
Prior to 1971, the Trucial Sheikdoms of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharja, Ajman, Umm al-Qaiwain, Fujairah, and Ras al-Khaimah were under a British protectorate. As such, the Untied States had a very limited relationship with the sheikdoms.
2019 will mark the 48th year of National Day celebrations in the UAE. All National Day celebrations in the UAE follow the theme “Spirit of the Union”, inspired by the vision of the late ruler Sheikh Zayed.
Prior to the formation of the UAE, the Emirates were called The Trucial States - an assembly of independent Sheikhdoms - that formed a close bond with the British Government by signing a treaty in 1892. The Trucial States were not officially absorbed into the British Empire but they became a British Protectorate.

Until 1966, the UAE (known then as the Trucial States) used the Gulf Rupee, which was issued by the Government of India and the Reserve Bank of India. After that, the northern Emirates used the Qatar-Dubai Riyal, and Abu Dhabi used the Bahraini Dinar. The UAE dirham was issued in 1973.
