How to Find a Vehicle's Weight
- Check the "Tire and Loading Information" plate located inside the frame of the driver's side door. Many manufacturers will stamp the weight of the vehicle on this plate.
- Lift your hood and locate the plate affixed to your engine. Some manufacturers will stamp the weight of your vehicle on the engine plate.
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
If you're looking for the weight of your vehicle, there are a few ways to find it. Inside the frame of your driver's side door, there will usually be a sticker with your curb weight and GVWR. If you can't find this sticker, your owner's manual will sometimes have this information as well.

Exceeding the recommended towing capacity causes the transmission to work harder than it's meant to, which creates more heat energy. This heat breaks down the transmission fluid that lubricates the transmission's moving parts. Without proper lubrication, the transmission can seize up and cause major damage.
The tare weight is calculated by subtracting the net weight from the gross weight, and will appear once the required tare weight (mass) units are selected directly underneath. The tare weight is the weight contribution from packaging, vehicles, containers, etc.
Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) is specified by the vehicle manufacturer and is the maximum allowable weight of the vehicle including all its occupants, luggage, and the tow-ball mass.
