Although technically Camilla should be Queen Consort when Charles succeeds his mother and becomes King, the couple have decided against that title. Clarence House has previously confirmed that Camilla will not take on the title of Queen Consort and instead will be known as Princess Consort.
“A queen can be a queen consort (married to a king), a queen regnant (reigning in her own right), or a queen dowager (mother of the reigning monarch),” says the Daily Express. “Kings, however, only exist as kings regnant… Camilla will be a queen consort when Charles succeeds his mother.
London (CNN) The British royal family has denied any involvement with the Netflix series "The Crown," which depicts the life of Queen Elizabeth II, after writer Peter Morgan claimed to meet regularly with "people who are very high-ranking and very active within the organisation."
Along with the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the Crown is an integral part of the institution of Parliament. The Queen plays a constitutional role in opening and dissolving Parliament and approving Bills before they become law.
Even though Prince Harry has stepped back from his royal duties, it doesn't mean he has been removed from the line of succession to the British throne. Harry remains sixth in line to the throne held by his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, although the chances of him ever ascending to king are remote.
Queen Elizabeth II has opened every session of Parliament since her accession, except in 1959 and 1963 when she was pregnant with Prince Andrew and Prince Edward respectively.
The Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex all have their official expenses paid from Duchy income, assisted by funds from the Queen's Sovereign Grant.
The Queen has held a weekly Audience with her Prime Minister throughout her reign in order to discuss Government matters. Though The Queen remains politically neutral on all matters, she is able to 'advise and warn' her ministers - including her Prime Minister - when necessary.
It is used to designate the monarch in either a personal capacity, as Head of the Commonwealth, or as the king or queen of his or her realms. It can also refer to the rule of law; however, in common parlance 'The Crown' refers to the functions of government and the civil service.
As of 2020, there are 16 Commonwealth realms: Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Grenada, Jamaica, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and the United Kingdom.
Another of Queen Elizabeth II's ceremonial — but important — political powers is the Royal Assent. Parliament makes laws, but the queen must sign off on proposed bills before they can go into effect. By giving the Royal Assent, she approves the proposed law. She technically also can reject bills.
The British Monarchy is known as a constitutional monarchy. This means that, while The Sovereign is Head of State, the ability to make and pass legislation resides with an elected Parliament.
The Crown filming locations: Wilton HouseBuckingham Palace features heavily in The Crown, but was unavailable as an actual location for the production team. Instead, the Queen's residence was recreated with several stately homes across the country, including this elaborate Tudor estate in Wiltshire.
To show the passage of time, after two seasons, the whole cast would be replaced with older actors to underline the transitions taking place. So Claire Foy always knew she would just be the “young” Elizabeth in Seasons 1 and 2, and Olivia Colman is only going to play Elizabeth in Seasons 3 and 4.
The Windsors, which began airing on the UK's Channel 4 in 2016, reimagines the lives of the royals as a satirical soap opera. Critics have called the show "a riotous parody," and according to the Daily Mail's royal correspondent Rebecca English, the Windsors themselves (or at least the people who work for them) agree.
Britain now has what's known as a “Constitutional Monarchy.” Parliament makes all of the political decisions while the Queen is a symbolic Head of State. Another poll revealed 76% of Britain favors keeping the monarchy. While British taxpayers help care for the royals, the family does attract tourists to the UK.
Each episode of the first two seasons would shoot for about 22 days, with each costing about GB£5 million (US$7 million) to produce.
The show is popular among U.S. viewers too. According to Deadline, Nielsen's SVOD Content Ratings showed that The Crown averaged nearly 1.3 million total viewers and nearly 600,000 in the 18-49 demo for the Season 2 premiere. 'The Crown's' audience is older and wealthier than those of some other Netflix shows.
Foy earned an estimated $40,000 per episode, despite the fact that the series had a $7 million per episode budget, and it was Foy's head upon which the titular crown came to rest.
As royal historian Robert Lacey previously wrote in Radio Times: “What you see is both invented and true.” The Crown is painstakingly researched, and closely based on real historical events; but it is also a work of drama and storytelling, rather than a documentary.
