Tumblers are perfect for both hot and cold drinks. They help to keep the drink at its original temperature for longer periods of time, but Starbucks tumblers are not designed for use in the microwave.
Stainless steel is a common material for reusable travel mugs. It's great for temperature-sensitive liquids, it's highly durable, and it's one of the most recyclable materials for drinkware. Overall, stainless steel is the most sustainable and healthy choice.
Plastic Absorbs FlavorsOver time, plastic absorbs odors and flavors. To see just how much a plastic mug can absorb, fill an old plastic mug up with coffee and drink it. Then, wash the mug out and put tea in it. When you try the tea, you'll likely notice hints of coffee that give the tea an off-flavor.
Stainless steel doesn't leach chemicals into your drink. Drink healthy. Excellent temperature retention – Nothing else like stainless steel can keep your drinks hot or cold as long. The most beefed up plastic insulated mug doesn't even come close to a vacuum insulated stainless steel tumbler.
And no matter how well it is insulated, a ceramic mug will never keep your coffee hot as long as a vacuum insulated steel mug. That said, stainless steel mugs still do better. Ceramic travel mugs that are not insulated are basically like a regular coffee cup. They do not retain heat well.
The larger you go, the more you can expect to fit in your mug. For instance, the 12 ouncer would fit one can of soda, while the 64 ounce mug would hold almost all of a 2-liter bottle. You should look for a travel mug that's big enough for you.
People swear by their Yetis and with good reason. They actually keep your drinks cold, ice unmelted, and seltzer bubbly for hours. Plus, the insulation and large size make them perfect for outdoor activities. In fact, we named a Yeti the best outdoor water bottle for its durability and insulation.
Yes, travel mugs keep drinks cold in the same way they keep them hot. This does insulate your drink, but not well. Hot drinks cool fairly quickly and cold drinks heat up quickly.
Results: It was found that the aluminum foil and cotton were the best insulators for keeping the water cold while the Styrofoam sheets and the bubble wrap were the worst two insulators for keeping the water cold.

We brewed some coffee and poured a steaming cup. On average, with the lid on, the YETI allowed coffee to stay warm for 5 to 6 hours at room temperature. This is vastly longer than my everyday titanium mug. It's easy to wash, too, as the cup and lid are both dishwasher safe.

Here's what I found: Zak tumblers are much cheaper than Yeti tumblers, selling for under $10 vs $20-$40 for a Yeti. They perform just as well in ice retention tests and offer better value for money. However, Yeti are more durable, dishwasher safe and have a better warranty.

Contigo makes a great product and it is about 30% cheaper than a Yeti. But if you want the flash and want your mug to match your cooler then buy the Yeti (I did). I do believe the Yeti lid is much better for drinking beer and keeping my beer cold than the Contigo products.
The Rambler series of drinkware is the first line of YETIs you can fit in your hand. And, yeah, we over-engineered these YETI Tumblers to be virtually indestructible and keep your drink as cold (or hot) as science allows.

I tested it and YES, you can put a Yeti cup in the microwave without it catching fire or causing any real harm. The contents inside will still heat up, but they will heat up slower than if they were in a glass or ceramic cup.
