First and foremost, the light novel series of Unital Ring is yet to complete. Unfortunately, this means that the anime adaptation, which will surely be made given the series' popularity, might take another year after the final light novel is released. 2024, sadly, is a realistic release date for the Unital Ring anime.

At the very end of SAO Volume 21, Kirito finds himself confronted by a woman in real life. She is miffed that Kirito didn't recognize her even though she had come all the way to transfer into his school. The book literally ends (minus the afterword) with rat girl Argo waltzing in as a surprise ending.
Kirito and Asuna didn't immediately die because the system, Cardinal, was designed that way. That's why they have the resurrection item like Disgaea mentioned. There is a delay before the player is killed in the real world, following his avatar's death.
War of the Underworld came to an end with its 23rd episode, and while the Alicization Arc has been put to rest, there are still some lingering questions following the season finale. Following what happened at the end of the previous episode, Kirito answers a call from Rinko who informs him that Alice has gone missing.
And Asuna chose to stay with him. Star King Kirito and Star Queen Asuna was trapped 200 years in Underworld equivalent to 2 months in real world.
It is confirmed they sleep together. Everybody is aware how much they are special to each other. And, it is heavily implied that they got married at some point. About Unital Ring.
SAO: Unital Ring (Volume 21) will be a direct sequel to Volume 18 and continue the story of Kirito, Alice, and Asuna. He also released the prologue chapter for Volume 21 in December 2017.

What Is 'Sword Art Online' All About? This SAO is a brilliant anime adaptation of the Japanese light novel series of the same name by Reki Kawahara and is insanely popular in Japan and all around the globe. Currently, the series is ongoing, and over nineteen million copies have been sold globally.
Once Alicization wraps up in early 2020, there is likely to be a pretty large gap before the final arc, Unital Ring, is finished and ready to be adapted for screen.
