WarnerMedia's new Netflix competitor, HBO Max, launched on Wednesday for free for millions of AT&T customers. AT&T, which purchased Time Warner in 2018, is offering HBO Max at no extra cost to customers with the following plans: Unlimited Elite (wireless) Internet 1000.
The WarnerMedia-owned premium cabler is making almost 500 hours of programming available to stream for free (without ads) for a limited time on HBO Now and HBO Go services without a subscription, starting this Friday, April 3. Also streaming for free are 20 Warner Bros.
Current HBO NOW subscribers (billed directly by HBO) will also get access to HBO Max at launch at no additional cost.
Launching on May 27, HBO Max is the successor to HBO Now. Signing up is the same as it would be for HBO Now, with Max offering all the same content as HBO Now plus that aforementioned catalog of hit shows, movies and originals that are exclusive to this new platform.
It's free for all HBO TV subscribers. Some HBO TV subscribers will now get free access to HBO Max, depending on WarnerMedia's deal with the user's cable company.
HBO has no Live TV options for its HBO Go app. However, the cable network does make "Watchmen," "Big Little Lies," "Euphoria," and a host of other scripted miniseries, shows, and movies available to watch in their entirety on HBO Go within minutes of a live broadcast.
HBO's live shows and events require time to be prepared for HBO NOW. Such content is normally available within 24 hours of the original broadcast.
