ns2 uses OTcl script and ns3 uses c++/python script. For WSN ns2 is better. for protocol design and network animation ns3 is good.
The major difference between DNS server and the name server is that : A DNS server is a server that answers queries in the Domain Name System. The Domain Name System is primarily used to resolve names in conjunction with the TCP/IP suite of networking protocols, although DNS queries are also used for other purposes.
DNS provides a name to number (IP address) mapping or translation, allowing internet users to use, easy to remember names, and not numbers to access resources on a network and the Internet.
Type or paste the "ipconfig /all" command (without the quotation marks) into the Command Prompt and press "Enter" to run it and get detailed information about the network. Locate the IP address of the computer in the "IPv4 Address" field. Locate the primary DNS IP address in the "DNS Servers" field.
The first step to flushing your DNS is to open your “Windows Command” prompt.
- WinXP: Start, Run and then type “cmd” and press Enter.
- Vista, Window 7 and Windows 8: Click “Start” and type the word “Command” in the Start search field.
- In the open prompt, type “ipconfig /flushdns” (without the quotes).
A DNS server is used to 'resolve' a name into an IP address (or vice versa). A local DNS server which performs domain name lookup is usually located on the network to which your computer is attached. Your local DNS server then sends another query to those 'authoritative' servers, and usually gets an answer.
When you enter a domain name in your web browser, it first sends a request to a global network of servers that form the Domain Name System (DNS). These name servers are computers managed by your hosting company. Your hosting company will forward your request to the computer where your website is stored.
Domain names are used to identify one or more IP addresses. For example, the domain name microsoft.com represents about a dozen IP addresses. Domain names are used in URLs to identify particular Web pages. For example, in the URL the domain name is pcwebopedia.com.
Open the DOS interface of your computer by typing the letters "cmd" into the "Open" field of the run menu. After you press enter, a new window should open which includes the DOS command prompt. In this window, type "Hostname" and press the enter key. Your computer's server name should appear.
In OSI stack terms, DNS runs in parallel to HTTP in the Application Layer (layer 7). DNS is in effect an application that is invoked to help out the HTTP application, and therefore does not sit "below" HTTP in the OSI stack. DNS itself also makes use of UDP and more rarely TCP, both of which in turn use IP.
To point your domain name to a new IP address, please follow these steps:
- Open a browser window and go to

- Click on Domain Name Administration and select DNS Administration.
Public nameservers are what identifies a certain web hosting server to the other computer that are trying to access content on that server. Nameservers would only be changed if the website was being moved to a different hosting provider. Either way, a change in nameservers means relocation of a website to another host.
Nameservers are your primary DNS controller, and without the correct nameserver settings, your email and website won't work correctly. Your domain must be registered with GoDaddy in your account to edit nameservers.
8.8. 8.8 is the primary DNS server for Google DNS. Google DNS is a public DNS service that has been launched by Google that has been set up to make the Internet and the DNS system faster, safer, secure, and more reliable for all internet users.
The process is fairly well documented for various OS's.
- Get yourself a machine or a VM.
- install the OS of your choice.
- install the DNS server (usually something like BIND)
- Assuming this is an Authoritative DNS server, you need need to create your zone file with your DNS information in it.

However, there is a simple way to speed up DNS propagation:
- Define or modify an A record that points your hostname to the new destination IP address.
- Set a minimal TTL for that DNS record—we recommend 5 minutes. Below that, many ISPs might ignore the TTL and retain the old record in cache.
A custom name server allows you to run your own name server to respond to DNS requests for your domains. You can also decide to setup custom name servers for branding purposes, if you would like to hide the fact that your domain's DNS requests are handled by our public name servers.
