Located just an hour away from Toronto, yet a world away in atmosphere, the small town of Lindsay is an ideal place to live in Ontario if you love nature and the great outdoors. There are many outdoor cafes, pubs and classic watering holes in Lindsay's historic downtown where you can relax and enjoy a pint or two.
Balsam Lake boasts lovely waterfront, clear, clean water, sand beaches and dunes along with large, private bays. As it is the highest point on the Trent-Severn Waterway, Balsam Lake is known as the cleanest lake in the Kawarthas.
The Kawartha Lakes (/kÉ™'wÉ”rθÉ/) are a chain of lakes in south-central Ontario, Canada that form the upper watershed of the Trent River. The lakes are located on the boundary between the Paleozoic limestone regions of the Golden Horseshoe, and the Precambrian granite Canadian Shield of northern and central Ontario.
Lake Scugog is an artificially flooded lake in Scugog, Regional Municipality of Durham and the unitary city of Kawartha Lakes in central Ontario, Canada. It lies between the communities of Port Perry and Lindsay. The lake has been raised and lowered several times over its history.
Interesting Fact: Stoney is the deepest Kawartha lake with a maximum depth of 32 m. It is also the most north eastern of the lakes.
The lake was described as a body of water about 1â„3 of a mile (0.5 km) across that originally had a depth of 6 to 10 feet (1.8 to 3.0 m).
Geography. The District Municipality of Muskoka occupies an area of 6,475 km2 in Southern Ontario that includes the towns of Bracebridge, Gravenhurst and Huntsville, as well as the townships of Georgian Bay, Lake of Bays and Muskoka Lakes.
The latter includes the Greater Toronto Area's satellite municipalities, such as Peterborough, Barrie, Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and the Niagara Region. The GTA continues, however, to be in official use elsewhere in the Government of Ontario, such as the Ministry of Finance.

The name Muskoka comes from the name of an Ojibwe or Chippewa tribe chief named Musquakie which means "not easily turned back in the day of battle".
In 1615, explorer Samuel de Champlain travelled via the river system. Huron and Ojibway Indians inhabited the area. Actually †Kawartha †is an Ojibwa word meaning †shining watersâ€.
Kawartha Lakes was created in 2001 by the amalgamation of all the municipalities in the former county of Victoria, including Lindsay, Bobcaygeon, Verulam, Fenelon Falls, Omemee, Sturgeon Point, Woodville and 10 townships. The name is taken from the name given to a group of lakes in the area, the Kawartha Lakes.
From pan fish to sport fish; large and small mouth bass, pike, perch, rock bass, pickerel and muskie, Kawartha Lakes offers some of the best year round freshwater fishing in the world.
Havelock was an important freight depot from the 1880s to the 1960s. The railway is now run by Canadian Pacific as Kawartha Lakes Railway and its activity today consists of transporting nepheline syenite and crushed basalt rock from two mines north of Havelock operated by Unimin.
This is one of Ontario's prime cottage and vacation areas, encompassing the County of Peterborough and the City of Kawartha Lakes (formerly Victoria County) and is encircled by Durham region and Haliburton, Northumberland and Prince Edward Counties.
