DK yarns are lighter than worsted, but heavier than sport. DK yarn is equivalent to #3 Light on the Standard Yarn Weight System. It is often used for infant wear and lightweight garments. Gauge for DK is 5-6 stitches per inch on a US 4-6 needle.
4ply yarn is 28 stitches and 36 rows, to 10 x 10 cm, over stocking stitch, using 31/4mm needles. Double knitting (DK) yarn is 22 stitches and 28 rows, to 10 x 10 cm, over stocking stitch, using 4mm needles. Chunky yarn is 14 stitches and 19 rows, to 10 x 10 cm, over stocking stitch, using 61/2mm needles.

Dk is thinner, so you'd have to go up enough needle sizes to get the same gauge as the worsted. You could also try doubling the DK and going up a needle size to get guage and to approximate the fabric you'd get with worsted. You would need a little less than double the yarn, in this case.
Fingering – thin, but definitely useable. A common weight for socks and shawls. Sport – medium thick yarn, good for lightweight garments or thick winter socks. DK – stands for Double Knitting weight. Worsted – truly the middle of the yarn thickness road here.

DK/Sport Weight Yarns. DK (double knitting) or Light Worsted yarns are generally above fingering/sock weight, but below worsted or aran weight. They are often about the same size as "sport" weight yarns, but are not necessarily interchangeable. anything that calls for a smaller-than-worsted weight yarn.
If you use DK for a 4 ply pattern it will come out bigger so, if the pattern tells you to knit for, say, 4" or 10cms you will have to make it a bit longer to be in proportion. Most patterns have a tension guide eg 22 stitches and 24 rows for a 4" or 10cms square (or whatever).

3: Light. DK or double knitting (UK) is the same thickness as 8ply (AU/NZ). There is no direct equivalent in the USA, although imports may be described as a 'light worsted'. Approximately 21-24 stitches per 4in/10cm on 3.75-4.5mm needles.
Four-ply yarn is lightweight (also known as DK or double knitting yarn) Aran yarn is not usually specified by ply, but this means worsted or medium-weight yarn.
