Elementary School Teacher: Primary school teachers are generally considered lower-middle class. They usually hold college degrees, but often do not hold graduate degrees; they make comfortable incomes, but have low accumulated wealth; their work is largely self-directed, but is not high status.
The majority of nurses identify themselves as being working class and the ONS categorises them below doctors and pharmacists in its social stratification. Consequently, nurses are oppressed in the same way as other working class professions as part of the economic and social structure of society.

The UK Class SystemThe class system in the UK is definitely still in place. Most people living in the UK fall into the Middle-Class category. Such occupations as teachers, nurses, shop owners, and white-collar professionals are all a part of the middle class.
The upper class or the upper classes are the group of people in a society who own the most property and have the highest social status, and who may not need to work for money. Many of the British upper classes are no longer very rich.
The underclass is the segment of the population that occupies the lowest possible position in a class hierarchy, below the core body of the working class. The underclass concept has been a point of controversy among social scientists.
Five main groups in the British class system
- Lower class. This is a controversial term to describe the long term unemployed, homeless etc.
- Working class. Basic low level unskilled or semi-skilled workers, such as those with no university or college education.
- Middle class.
- Upper class.
In 2010, the Census Bureau reports that the median income in the United States was $49,445, so if you go a little lower or higher, you get a middle-class range of between about $30,000 and $70,000 a year.
It's perfectly fine. Average wage in the UK is 26ish. That is skewed due to London. 20k in London is not so great but if you're living at home with no rent perfectly fine.
Pew defines "middle class" as a person earning between two-thirds and twice the median American household income, which in 2019 was $68,703, according to the United States Census Bureau. That puts the base salary to be in the middle class just shy of $46,000.
Gallup has, for a number of years, asked Americans to place themselves -- without any guidance -- into five social classes: upper, upper-middle, middle, working and lower. These five class labels are representative of the general approach used in popular language and by researchers.
21k+ is a very good salary, 40k is excellent. If you're in a typical household with two people and two kids, earning 18-21k, then you are able to live comfortably - so 40k from two earners would give you a very nice lifestyle. If you're single and earning 21k+ then you can live very comfortably.
Pew Research defines middle-income Americans as those whose annual household income is two-thirds to double the national median (adjusted for local cost of living and household size). A family earning between $32,048 and $53,413 was considered lower-middle class.

Yes, most registered nurses are considered part of the middle class, with the possible exception of some working/non-working part-time registered nurses. While most registered nurses do make a good annual income, most will agree that their work is often challenging and demanding.
The results for the UK have some striking features. The OECD defines the middle class as households with disposable income of between 75% and 200% of the median (or mid-point of the income distribution, adjusted for the number of people who live in a household).
The proportion of working households continues to rise over the year. Lower class (occasionally described as working class) are those employed in low-paying wage jobs with very little economic security. The term "lower class" also refers to persons with low income. Members of the working class are sometimes called blue-collar workers.
Instead, for those of us in economic policy, "working class" has come to fill in the bottom section of middle class. They make more than the poverty line, and may even technically make enough to be earn a middle class by income, but they still live paycheck to paycheck.
The term upper class is a socioeconomic term used to describe those who reside on the highest levels of the social ladder above the middle and working or lower classes. They generally have the highest status in society and hold a great deal of wealth. Instead, they inherited their money or lived off their investments.
