Quilting stitches are the stitches that hold these three layers of a quilt together – the top, batting and the back. These are simple stitches (can be machine stitched or hand sewn) made through these 3 layers creating a padded (raised) effect. Running stitches, back stitches and chain stitches are used in hand sewing.

Wash it with quilt wash on a gentle cycle in a front-loading machine, if possible. Rinse and spin twice to remove all residues. To dry, lay the quilt flat on a sheet outdoors or on a bed. If drying it outdoors, cover the quilt with another sheet to protect it from passing birds.
Quilts are a beautiful addition to any home as covers on beds or as art for the walls. Hand-washing is the preferred method for cleaning quilts. Gentle cleaners and plenty of soaking time - not just overnight, but several nights sometimes. I put the quilt in a plastic laundry basket, and the basket in the bathtub. Squeeze the soapy water through the quilt, let soak, rinse and repeat until the water runs clear. Shower massagers can make this a lot easier.
