To write an effective preheader, you need to start with a good subject line. The subject line should be short, catch your readers' attention, and stand on its own for those who can't see the preheader. For an effective subject line and preheader combo, think about what your main idea is and what the call-to-action is.
Email preheader is the summary text that follows a subject line when the email is viewed in an inbox. In many cases, it's used to provide a short summary of the email, and is typically one sentence long.
In an e-mail, the body (content text) is always preceded by header lines that identify particular routing information of the message, including the sender, recipient, date and subject. Some headers are mandatory, such as the FROM, TO and DATE headers.
Limit preheader messages to 85-100 characters. Test preheader content by viewing it in multiple email clients for an idea of how many characters recipients see. Test the email and preheader on mobile devices by viewing your content in traditional vertical view and horizontal view.
