Install iOS 14 or iPadOS 14
- Go to Settings > General > Software Update.

Apple stopped supporting the original iPad in 2011, but if you still have one it's not completely useless. It's still quite capable of performing some of the everyday tasks you normally use a laptop or desktop PC to perform.
Open Settings and tap About. Look for the model number in the top section. If the number you see has a slash "/", that's the part number (for example, MY3K2LL/A). Tap the part number to reveal the model number, which has a letter followed by four numbers and no slash (for example, A2342).
Support lifespan of four to six years for models is not uncommon. iPad5 was launched in March 2017. App support by Developers typically extend a few years beyond Apple's EOS.
In order to download the latest update over, first and foremost, you must have the previous beta installed onto your device. If you do, then the update will show right up in Settings > General > Software Update. Tap on Download and Install in order to go ahead with the process.
Much like the iOS 15 update for iPhones, any iPads that support iPadOS 14 will be able to upgrade to iPadOS 15. This includes: iPad Pro 9.7-inch. iPad (fifth generation through eighth generation)
To install the iPadOS beta, you'll need to visit Software Update on your iPad once you have the profile loaded.

How to install the iPadOS update using Software Update on your iPad
- Make sure you have a recent iCloud backup.
- Launch Settings from your Home screen.
- Tap on General.
- Tap on Software Update.
- Tap on Download and Install.
- Enter your Passcode, if prompted.
- Tap Agree to the Terms and Conditions.
- Tap Agree again to confirm.
Open Settings, then tap General. Scroll down to Profile and select it. You can then tap on the iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 beta software profile and choose to activate it.
Use two apps at the same time with Split View
- Open an app.
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the Dock.
- On the Dock, touch and hold the second app that you want to open, then drag it off the dock to the left or right edge of the screen.
How to enroll your iPad in the iPadOS 14 public beta
- Go to beta.apple.com, if you're not there already.
- Tap the iOS tab, if it's not highlighted already.
- Tap on Download profile.
- Tap on Install in the upper right corner.
- Enter your Passcode.
- Tap on Install, this time to consent to the beta agreement.

Discontinued date. The iPad (3rd generation) dropped update support in 2016, making iOS 9.3. 5 the latest version for Wi-Fi Only models while cellular models run iOS 9.3. 6 when it was replaced by the iPad (4th generation).
