In 1990 Royal Mail Parcels was rebranded to Parcelforce, along with a massive investment in IT and infrastructure with the introduction of online tracking and the construction our National and International sorting hubs.
You and your customers can track the progress of a parcels journey using the handy street map which shows the proximity of the parcel to the delivery address. Customers are also given a one hour time slot and the name of the delivery driver keeping them informed and up to date.
If you missed a package delivery from the U.S. Postal Service, the mail carrier will typically leave a “Redelivery Notice” on your front door or in your mailbox to notify you that a parcel delivery was attempted.

We deliver to an address, not a named individual. When no one is available to accept the item, we will try and deliver the parcel to a neighbour, or to a local Post Office branch, where it will be held for 16 days. Please ensure that the recipient's telephone number is included for both UK and overseas deliveries.
All of our UK services require a signature upon delivery. This means that it is not possible to leave an item without receiving one. If the item has been delivered then a signature should be visible as proof of delivery on your track & trace results.
There are a few reasons why your tracking number isn't recognised. Please check you've entered the number correctly. If your package is held at customs, you should contact the courier company in charge of your shipment. Normally, they should be able to help you with the customs clearing process, or even, just identifying the problem. Before contact, make sure you have the tracking number to give it to the courier to check its status.

You don't have to accept the delivery or any package that you either did not request it or you don't want it. You can refuse the delivery in person when the courier arrives at your address or have someone else do it on your behalf.
'Held at Customs' means the package you are sending to the destination country is held by the officials of the importer country's customs office. These government bodies hold the packages until they ensure that only permissible items cross their border and the taxes (Duties & Excise) are paid for the import.
USPS is telling people their mail is being held 'at the request of the customer. When a mail carrier cannot deliver a package on the day it was scheduled because their shift is ending, postal workers say, the system sometimes generates a misleading “held at the request of the customer” message.
If you package tracking has "Retention" status, it is either stuck at the custom for inspection or the package was delivered but you were not there to receive it. You should have received a slip/note from the postal office with instructions on how to retrieve the package.
It normally takes a matter of minutes or hours for a package to clear customs, but it can take days or even weeks if there is a problem.
