At Gamescom, Microsoft revealed it has plans to ensure "all future Xbox 360 Games with Gold titles will be playable on Xbox One.” On December 17, 2015 Microsoft made another sixteen Xbox 360 games compatible with Xbox One, including titles such as Halo: Reach, Fable III and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
Halo: Reach was rated M. According to the ESRB, the impartial body that assigns game ratings, Halo 5 is rated T due to blood, mild language, and violence. That sounds like what we've come to expect from a Halo game.
In February 2017,
Halo Wars 2 was released.

Playing backward-compatible games on your Xbox One. Select digital and disc-based Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games can be played on Xbox One. To see if games you own are backward compatible, sign in at My games, then select Xbox 360. If a game shows as being Backward Compatible, you can play it on Xbox One.
If you play MCC through Game Pass, Reach's campaign, firefight and multiplayer including forge will all be free. If or when the game leaves Game Pass, the campaign/firefight will be $9.99 USD (slightly reduced if you buy it while playing through Game Pass).
Halo: Reach might be closing in on double digits, but it's still in great shape. This prequel shooter has already been playable on Xbox One via the backward compatibility program, but the version that has just landed on PC and Xbox One is a remaster.
For ODST, the place it takes chronologically in the story is right after Metropolis in Halo 2. So that means that Halo 2's story ends right before ODST's story ends. So if we're talking about story continuity and what game we would play first story wise, we should play Halo 2, ODST and then Halo 3.
Because Bungie didn't want to keep making Halo games. They wanted to do more, but under Microsoft, they were only allowed to work on Halo. So Bungie fulfilled their contract and left Microsoft. 343 was then created in 2009 to take over the Halo franchise after Bungie left.
Gameplay-wise I would recommend playing the games in original release order because the way Reach plays is dramatically different from Halo Combat Evolved. Reach is a fantastic game when it comes to story and multiplayer, but I'd personally recommend that you start from the beginning with CE.
It is definitely worth playing the main games in the series. With the recent announcement that 343 will be releasing The Master Chief Collection on the Xbox One, it's the perfect opportunity for people to go back and play the games they've missed (or start the series if you've played none at all.)
Halo: Reach is a first-person shooter video game set in the Halo universe and direct prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved, depicting the Fall of Reach. It was developed by Bungie, LLC. Halo: Reach is part of The Master Chief Collection for PC and Xbox One, as announced at E3 2019 and was released on December 3rd 2019.
I would recommend that you play the games in release order, but not the stupid spin-offs like Halo Wars, so in this order. Halo: Combat Evolved (or anniversary), Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, Halo 4, and then Halo 5: Guardians.
As of 2558, Master Chief is 47 years old.
In regards to the games, the proper chronological order is:
- Halo Wars (Chronologically, this is the FIRST game in the timeline)
- Halo: Reach.
- Halo: Combat Evolved.
- Halo 2 / Halo 3: ODST (Both are set around the same period)
- Halo 3.
- Halo 4.
All Xbox 360-era Halo games, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 4 and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, are now backwards compatible for the Xbox One and Xbox One S. (Halo: Reach was already backwards compatible with the system).
Backward-Compatible Xbox 360 Games
- 3D Ultra Minigolf.
- 3D Ultra Minigolf.
- A Kingdom for Keflings.
- A World of Keflings.
- Aegis Wing.
- Age of Booty.
- Alan Wake.
- Alan Wake's American Nightmare.
Microsoft's final update to the list of backward compatible titles was in November 2007 bringing the final total to 461 Xbox games. In order to use the backwards compatibility feature on Xbox 360 a hard drive is required. Game saves and downloadable content can't be transferred from an original Xbox to an Xbox 360.
Halo 2 for the original Xbox is backward compatible on the Xbox 360.
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary (Disc Only) Halo 3 (Xbox One X enhanced) Halo 3: ODST. Halo 4.
