lick. To lick is to taste or touch with the tongue. Colloquially, to lick an opponent is to beat them at a game or fight. In jazz music, a lick is a short burst of music, or a solo.
Licks by nature are just filler used to embellish the melody around it. Most of the time guitarists are improvising licks rather than playing anything specifically notated, so the substance that comes from a lick on its own if it were played in isolation wouldn't be too fulfilling.
A riff is thematic. It serves as the main musical idea for a (section of a) song. Often it's repeated and developed, sometimes with variations, sometimes in different keys, but always recognizable as the same main musical idea. A lick is musical idea, too, but often it's incomplete.
Liquor. Liquor, also known as spirits, is an alcoholic beverage made of grains or other plants that are fermented into a potent drink. Though a few others fall into this category, it's generally accepted that six types of distilled spirits are liquors: brandy, gin, rum, tequila, vodka, and whiskey.
Atticus Finch Quotes. “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”
“ before I can live with other folks I've got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn't abide by majority ride is a person's conscience.” The quote refers to the fact that a person cannot "live with himself/herself" unless they are being true to their own morality.
"Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try to win." In this passage, "licked" means defeated or conquered. Atticus is not merely concerned with winning this court case.
Atticus leaves for two weeks, because there was an emergency session of the state legislature. The governor, according to Scout, wanted to do some work to help the poor. Here is the quote: The more important point about this development (Atticus leaving for two weeks) is that Calpurnia had to watch Scout and Jem.
Dill has run away from home because his mother and new father did not pay enough attention to him. He took a train from Meridian to Maycomb Junction, fourteen miles away, and covered the remaining distance on foot and on the back of a cotton wagon. Jem goes down the hall and tells Atticus.
Here Atticus is explaining to Jem that courage comes in many forms. Mrs Dubose was determined to die without needing to rely on morphine. She achieved this but her success is tinged with sadness because she died before she could properly enjoy being morphine free. Atticus believes this makes her even more courageous.

'Scout,' said Atticus, 'nigger-lover is just one of those terms that don't mean anything – like snot-nose. It's hard to explain – ignorant, trashy people use it when they think somebody's favouring Negroes over and above themselves. In To Kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee shows the theme of courage through: Atticus defending Tom Robinson. Atticus' attitude towards guns. Mrs Dubose's determination to be morphine-free at the time of her deat.
Analysis. Atticus wants Scout and Jem to understand the value of real courage. Courage does not mean having a gun, it means doing the right thing such as defending Tom Robinson even when you know there is very little chance of winning.
Firstly Atticus is presented as a courageous man for agreeing to defend Tom Robinson even when he knows it will cause difficulties for himself and his family. Atticus also shows courage when he shoots the mad dog, as despite being referred to in his youth as One–Shot Finch , he has not used a gun for 30 years.
Courage is displayed by several characters in the novel. Firstly Atticus is presented as a courageous man for agreeing to defend Tom Robinson even when he knows it will cause difficulties for himself and his family. He also knows he has little hope of winning the case.
