Read Receipts also stress out receiversAccording to participants, Read Receipts increase a pressure to respond as a receiver, whereby they feel “overwhelmed,” and “stressed out” by the social commitments that they form — a finding that also came through with survey respondents.
Open the settings app in iOS. Scroll down to "Messages" and tap on it to view the Messages settings. Find "Read Receipts" and make sure it is toggled to the off position (in iOS 7, green is on and clear is off) Resume your normal messaging behavior.

You might love the idea of knowing exactly when someone has read your email, but requesting read receipts is likely to rankle your recipients. It sends the message that you don't trust them to respond unless you build in some accountability, or that you don't trust them to respond quickly enough for your liking.
If you think you've been blocked, try calling the person's number from another phone. Use your work phone, borrow a friend's phone; it doesn't really matter. The point is, if you can't reach a person on your phone, but can reach them on another phone, there's a good chance you've been blocked.
Now when you send a text message you can tap and hold the message and select “View message details“. On some models, it may be under “View report“. The statuses will show “Received“, “Delivered“, or may simply show the time of delivery.
When It says “delivered” that means it has sent to your recipient and when it doesn't say delivered that means that either you don't have WiFi or their battery is dead so the message hasn't gone through I think. From my understanding, when your message says delivered under it then the person received it.
The delivered message is unique to iMessage. This just lets you know it was delivered through Apple's system. If it says Read, then the recipient has "Send Read Receipts" activated on their device.
Disabling Read receipts also mean that you won't be able to see the names of the people who have viewed your status. Meanwhile, WhatsApp too has updated its status privacy feature. If you view someone's status update with Read receipts off, they won't get to know that you have seen the status.
When you disable read receipts, people who send you iMessages will still see a status when a message has been successfully delivered, but they will no longer see that you have read the message.
Originally Answered: In iMessages, why is it after showing "read" it turns back to "delivered"? It does not change back to “delivered” after it shows “read”. The person you send an iMessage to most likely has their Send Read Receipts setting off in the iMessage settings.
In the Messages app, find the person whose messages you'd like to read. From this screen, simply long-press on their message. The sender will then know that you've seen their message and just opted not to respond.
On Android: Settings > Chat features, Text Messages, or Conversations and turn on desired Read Receipts options.
The most an Android user can do is to turn on Delivery Reports on the Android Messages app. All this setting does is notify a text message sender whenever a text was successfully delivered (but can't tell if a message was read or not).
If the iMessage never shows a “Delivered” or “Read” message, and it's still blue, then you may have been blocked – but not always. If the iMessage goes through and shows a “Delivered” message, then you have probably not been blocked.
In your list of conversations, tap and hold on the one you wish to mark as unread, then swipe your finger toward the right side of your screen. 3. Tap on the "Unread" icon that appears.
