Eat, Sleep, Feed Swans, Repeat – In order to befriend a Swan you need to repeat this process multiple times. Our Swan friends are like clock-work, every night around 7pm when I sit out with a cup of tea they come by and hiss at me till I feed them.
A swan can mate for life. They can also die of heartbreak if their partner dies. They are creatures of myth that only sing when they are dying.
But swans will eat raw potatoes. Flocks of them have been seen going over potato fields after harvest clearing up the leftovers. Vegetable peelings. Potato, carrot and other veg peelings are a great, no-cost option for feeding swans.
But despite their name, mute swans are anything but silent. Their courtship "dance" is accompanied by a range of hissing and grunting sounds. The idea that swans only sing when they are dying, the so-called swan song, is a myth.
Though it's obviously uncommon for swans to kill people, the aggression is par for the course. If they think they're being threatened -- especially during mating and nesting season -- they will absolutely attack. Most of the time, they just puff up and charge at you while hissing.

Mute swans can be very aggressive in defence of their nests and are highly protective of their mate and offspring. Most defensive attacks from a mute swan begin with a loud hiss and, if this is not sufficient to drive off the predator, are followed by a physical attack.

Ducks can eat sunflower seeds. Ducks are omnivores, which means they can eat a variety of food from both plant and animal origin. Sunflower seeds make a great treat for a duck and have plenty of health benefits too.
Add plants like native grasses, cattails, and sedges to the island, as these will provide shelter, food, and female swans will use them to help build a nest for young. This island can be a true island, constructed of earth and rising from the water's bottom substrate, or it can be a manmade floating island.
Using an oil-producing gland at the base of their tail, swans use their bills to spread this oil throughout their feathers to keep them waterproof. This is followed by further bathing, preening and ends with a flourishing tail wag.
