Well, a month without a full moon can only happen in the month of February, and it takes almost 20 years for the cycle of lunar phases to work out just right. The next month without a full moon will be February 2037. Wishing you clear skies!
November Full Moon AstrologyThe November full moon also known as the Beaver Moon heralds a moment of giving and sharing the efforts we have made throughout the rest of the year. In the old days it would have marked the end of the hunting season, food stores would have been full for the winter ahead.
November's full moon on Nov. 30 will undergo a penumbral lunar eclipse, two days after reaching aphelion, when the moon is farthest from Earth. The moon becomes officially full at 4:30 a.m. EST (0930 GMT) according to NASA's SkyCal site.
Waning Gibbous PhaseThe Waning Gibbous on November 15 has an illumination of 91%. This is the percentage of the Moon illuminated by the Sun. The illumination is constantly changing and can vary up to 10% a day.
On November 13, the planet of passion, aka Mars, will station direct for November 2020, and you'll feel an inner shift. On November 15 the new moon in Scorpio will bring a fresh start to your home life. As the Sun lines up with Jupiter and Pluto, you might move for a new job or be relocated at your current one.
The final full Moon or Cold Moon of 2020 will appear in the night sky on December 29-30. It will be at its peak at 10.30 PM EST.
Waxing Gibbous PhaseThe Waxing Gibbous on November 9 has an illumination of 91%. This is the percentage of the Moon illuminated by the Sun. The illumination is constantly changing and can vary up to 10% a day. On November 9 the Moon is 11.91 days old.
Numerous researchers have tackled these questions. They've reviewed records, conducted their own studies, and came to this conclusion: A full moon doesn't cause an increase in these human behaviors. In fact, two studies found that during a full moon, incidence of homicide and trauma dropped slightly.
The Moon's current phase for today and tonight is a Waning Crescent phase. In this phase the Moon's illumination is growing smaller each day until the New Moon.
But two to four times each year, a full Moon occurs when the Moon's orbit intersects Earth's plane of orbit, placing the Moon in Earth's shadow — and a lunar eclipse occurs! How long does it take our Moon to go around Earth? It takes 27 days, 7 hours, and 43 minutes for our Moon to complete one full orbit around Earth.
The full moon occurs roughly once a month. The time interval between a full moon and the next repetition of the same phase, a synodic month, averages about 29.53 days.
A full Moon happens roughly every 29.5 days. This is the length of time it takes for the Moon to go through one whole lunar phase cycle.
The next full Moon will occur on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 10:57 AM ET, and is known as the Hunter's Moon. Our calendar with full Moon dates, times, folklore, and names from the Farmers' Almanac can be found below for the 2021 calendar year.
The time between one full moon and the next is close to the length of a calendar month. So the only time one month can have two full moons is when the first full moon happens in the first few days of the month. This happens every two to three years, so this sort of Blue Moon comes about that often.
The "blue moon" reference is applied to the third full moon in a season with four full moons, thus correcting the timing of the last month of a season that would have otherwise been expected too early. This happens every two to three years (seven times in the Metonic cycle of 19 years).
every two and a half years
The term black moon refers to an additional new moon that appears in a month or in a season. It may also refer to the absence of a full moon or of a new moon in a month.
February 2018 won't have a full moon. There are two full moons in January, none in February, and two full moons again in March. This isn't a unique occurrence. It happened in 1999 and will happen again in 2037, at intervals of 19 years, an interval called the Metonic cycle by astronomers.
When February has no full Moon, January and March typically have two full Moons each (the second being widely hailed as a blue Moon). Much rarer is a 29-day February (in a leap year) with no full Moon.
The Blue MoonBecause there are roughly 29.5 days between full moons, it is unusual for two full moons to "fit" into a 30 or 31 day month (and impossible to fit into a 28 or 29 day month, so February can never have a Blue Moon). The term Blue Moon is believed to have originated in 1883 after the eruption of Krakatoa.
The Black Moon is a somewhat unusual celestial event — they occur about once every 32 months, on average, and they sometimes only occur in certain time zones. The new moon occurring on Tuesday, Aug. 18 is a Black Moon. The next Black Moon by the seasonal definition of the term will occur on May 19, 2023.
When the earth, moon, and Sun line up—which happens at times of full moon or new moon—the lunar and solar tides reinforce each other, leading to more extreme tides, called spring tides. When lunar and solar tides act against each other, the result is unusually small tides, called neap tides.
There were 12 full moons in 2016 with one full moon each month of the year.
