- Playa Blanca Area.
- Costa de Papagayo. This place is not really urbanized as it belongs to the protected “Parque Natural de Los Ajaches”.

If you want to do a larger shop, then are a number of larger supermarkets to choose from which have a greater selection and offer value-for-money. There are two Lidl supermarkets on the island – one in Tias on the road between the town and Puerto del Carmen and the other close by in Arrecife.
We look at the ten best places on the island next.
- Arrecife. The port city of Arrecife is the capital of Lanzarote.
- Puerto del Carmen. One of the most tourist crowded places on Lanzarote is Puerto del Carmen.
- Costa Teguise.
- Playa Blanca.
- Famara.
- Puerto Calero.
- San Bartolomé
- Arrieta.
The distance between Puerto del Carmen (Port) and Playa Blanca is 16 km. The road distance is 23.4 km.
Puerto del Carmen has the busiest vibe and that incredible long Strip. Costa Teguise has a more laid back, surfy feel, and feels more Spanish, as well as being more compact. Playa Blanca is quieter than either and feels a little more upmarket, but it's very spread out.
Throughout the European continent plugs have two round pins and this is no different in Lanzarote. Wherever you holiday in the Canaries, the current used is 220 Volts AC 50Hz. If you are travelling from the USA bring a voltage converter.
Lanzarote duty free200 cigarettes, 100 cigarillos, 25 cigars or 250g of other tobacco products. 1L of spirits. 2L of fortified wine (such as sherry or port), sparkling wine or any other drink that is less than 22% volume. In addition you may also bring back 1L of beer or 4L of still wine.
Spain-Lanzarote recommends you avoid drinking tap water in Lanzarote, most of the population use bottled water for drinking, coffee, tea and cooking. All tap water in Lanzarote is technically up to EU standards but as it is desalinated sea water it doesn't taste very good and has also been treated with chlorine.
There's often cloud hovering above Famara cliffsBut the reality is the rest of the island is bathed in sunshine from dawn to dusk!
The quickest way to get from Costa Teguise to Puerto del Carmen (Port) is to taxi which costs 30€ - 40€ and takes 20 min.
Playa del Carmen, the north beach in Tulum, and Akumal all have lifeguards for the beaches but they are limited. Swim close to shore and it you are not a big swimmer, wear a life vest. Waves will not get to big, this is a not a surfers paradise so swimming can be done every day!
Staying in Playa del Carmen is generally safe, and lots of people do go there with no worries at all. However, it is important to note that it's not always 100% safe. Though crime against tourists is rare, it's good to know how to minimise the risk so you can have a stress-free, absolutely amazing vacation.
Once you've enjoyed Puerto Calero you can either walk back to Puerto del Carmen or take the bus or ferry. This walk lasts around 1 hour, depending on your speed and whether or not you decide to stop for a swim along the way (which you will understandably be tempted by).
Lanzarote is famous for its fresh seafood and peculiar potatoes. The volcanic earth churns out humongous potatoes and these are included in almost every type of Lanzarote specialties.
These places are best for shopping in Arrecife:
- Museo Internacional de Arte Contemporaneo Castillo de San Jose.
- Marina Lanzarote.
- Deiland.
- Centro Comercial El Mercadillo.
- Espacio Dörffi.
How to get to Teguise Market. There are special buses from Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise traveling on Sunday to Teguise Market. Check the timetable if you plan to come here by public transport.
January & FebruaryYou can wear beach wear, shorts and flip flops on most days but you will want a light cardigan, jacket or fleece for some days and you will need trousers and a couple of layers for the evenings. We would also recommend you bringing a waterproof.
