Wells played Jennifer Parker, Marty McFly's girlfriend, in the 1985 film Back to the Future. She almost did not end up in the first film of the successful franchise. By then, Wells's pilot had been finished and she was recast as Jennifer, now shooting alongside Fox, never having filmed a frame with Stoltz.

When Marty McFly was sent 30 years into the future as part of the plot in "Back to the Future Part II," he arrived in a time when where there were hoverboards zipping around, people wore self-lacing shoes and flying cars were the norm. The date? It was Oct. 21, 2015.
What they did was, they drove a car down the street, then put gasoline on the street and lit it on fire, and filmed that. They combined the two shots to make it look like the car's wheels were flaming. Any time the car was in the air, well, that was on a crane.

Speaking with Italian website Bad Taste last year, the director said: “There will never, ever be, in the most absolutely way, a Back to the Future 4. “There will be no more Back to the Future.” Nevertheless, Back to the Future the musical debuts in the UK in 2020.
Elisabeth Shue was cast as Jennifer and all the closing shots of Back to the Future (1985) were re-shot for the beginning of this film. Claudia Wells (Jennifer in the first film) was unable to reprise her role, as she had stopped acting because her mother had been diagnosed with cancer.
