It is based on the principle that radiation is absorbed and scattered as it passes through an object. If there are variations in thickness or density (e.g. due to defects) in an object, more or less radiation passes through and affects the film exposure. Flaws show up on the film, usually as dark areas.

Blind image quality assessment refers to the problem of evaluating the visual quality of an image without any reference. It addresses a fundamental distinction between fidelity and quality, i.e. human vision system usually does not need any reference to determine the subjective quality of a target image.
Full-reference image quality assessment (FR-IQA) techniques compare a reference and a distorted/test image and predict the perceptual quality of the test image in terms of an objective score.
The goal of no-reference image quality assessment (NR-IQA) is to predict the quality of an image as perceived by human observers without using any pristine, reference images.

score = brisque( A ) calculates the no-reference image quality score for image A using the Blind/Referenceless Image Spatial Quality Evaluator (BRISQUE). brisque compare A to a default model computed from images of natural scenes with similar distortions. A smaller score indicates better perceptual quality.
If you are shooting photos only for the Web, it is recommended to shoot at M smooth. Eight megapixels is generally considered more than enough for web photos (in fact it's a bit large) but still allows flexibility to crop and adjust photos as needed.Dec 12, 2019

'High' or 'Fine' gives the best quality but the biggest files, 'Medium' or 'Normal' gives decent quality but smaller files, while 'Low' or 'Basic' means very small files but a visible quality loss. Image resolution determines the size at which you can produce high-quality prints. A general guideline is to aim for 300 pixels per linear inch (ppi). For onscreen photos, you need very few pixels. Resolution affects the display size of digital photos, but does not affect picture quality.
