New Jersey has five distinct climatic regions. These are: Northern, Central, Pine Barrens, Southwest, and Coastal.

Piedmont, geographic region in the eastern United States, running some 600 miles (950 km) between New Jersey (north) and Alabama (south) and lying between the Appalachian Mountains (west) and the Atlantic Coastal Plain (east).
The surface relief of the Piedmont is characterized by relatively low, rolling hills with heights above sea level between 200 feet (50 m) and 800 feet to 1,000 feet (250 m to 300 m). Essentially, the Piedmont is the remnant of several ancient mountain chains that have since been eroded.

The Piedmont is the area lying between the Atlantic Ocean and the Appalachian Mountains. The Triad is named for the three largest cities in the region: Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point.
