Clinical research shows that oregano oil, garlic, etc., are the most effective natural antibiotics that can destroy even the most resistant bacteria in the body.
The condition is treated by managing symptoms, including limiting salt and water intake or prescribing medication to reduce swelling. Antibiotics can also help kill any strep A bacteria left in the body.
Despite the high prevalence of GBS in the urethra, especially in individuals presenting with Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD), it is a rare cause of UTI [4,5]. GBS is mostly associated with postpartum infection that results from the vertical transmission of bacteria due to maternal cervicovaginal colonization.
Penicillin or amoxicillin is the antibiotic of choice to treat group A strep pharyngitis. There has never been a report of a clinical isolate of group A strep that is resistant to penicillin. However, resistance to azithromycin and clarithromycin is common in some communities.
Alpha-hemolytic streptococci are often included in the definition of contamination for comparing institutional rates, although it is known that they almost as often constitute true pathogens (23).
These bacteria are spread by direct contact with discharges from the nose and throat of infected people or by contact with infected wounds or sores on the skin. The risk of spreading the infection is highest when a person is ill, such as when people have "strep throat" or an infected wound.
Strep infection may lead to inflammatory illnesses, including: Scarlet fever, a streptococcal infection characterized by a prominent rash. Inflammation of the kidney (poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis) Rheumatic fever, a serious inflammatory condition that can affect the heart, joints, nervous system and skin.
Streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS) is a rare, but serious bacterial infection. STSS can develop very quickly into low blood pressure, multiple organ failure, and even death.
If strep throat isn't treated with antibiotics, you will continue to be contagious for 2 to 3 weeks even if your symptoms go away. You are much less contagious within 24 hours after you start antibiotics and are less likely to develop complications of the strep infection.
Doctors most often prescribe penicillin or amoxicillin (Amoxil) to treat strep throat. They are the top choices because they're safer, inexpensive, and they work well on strep bacteria.
Non–group A beta-hemolytic streptococci (groups C and G) also can cause acute pharyngitis; these strains are usually treated with antibiotics, although good clinical trials are lacking.
In the meantime, try these tips to relieve symptoms of strep throat:
- Get plenty of rest. Sleep helps your body fight infection.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Eat soothing foods.
- Gargle with warm salt water.
- Honey.
- Use a humidifier.
- Stay away from irritants.
If you have strep throat—which is caused by bacteria—your doctor may prescribe an antibiotic, such as penicillin. But strep throat goes away on its own in 3 to 7 days with or without antibiotics.
Causes and complicationsIf strep throat does not improve within two days of beginning treatment, it could indicate the presence of another infection, the spread of the strep bacteria to other areas outside the throat or an inflammatory reaction. GAS may infect the tonsils and sinuses if left untreated.
Strep Throat7: Group A strep will require 10 days of amoxicillin/penicillin. Alternative to 10-day oral treatment is a one-time intramuscular dose of benzathine penicillin G. 10-day treatment with a first-generation cephalosporin for all patients except anaphylactic penicillin allergic patients.
CEPHALOSPORINS. Oral cephalosporins have been studied as alternative antibiotics for the treatment of GABHS tonsillopharyngitis since 1969. Consistently superior bacteriologic eradication rates, and in many cases clinical cure rates, have been observed with the cephalosporins compared with penicillin.
Strep bacteria can sometimes live on children's throats without causing illness. As many as 1 in 5 children are “strep carriers.” This means that they have no symptoms, they are not contagious and their throat strep test stays positive even after taking antibiotics.

Alpha hemolysis is caused by hydrogen peroxide produced by the bacterium, oxidizing hemoglobin producing the green oxidized derivative methemoglobin.
Alpha hemolysis (α) is the reduction of the red blood cell hemoglobin to methemoglobin in the medium surrounding the colony. This causes a green or brown discoloration in the medium. The color can be equated with "bruising" the cells.
Group B strep bacteria aren't sexually transmitted, and they're not spread through food or water.

Group A streptococcus bacteria can be treated with common, inexpensive antibiotics. Penicillin is the drug of choice for both mild and severe disease. For penicillin-allergic patients with mild illness, erythromycin can be used, although occasional resistance has been seen.
Organisms such as lactobacilli, alpha-hemolytic Streptococcus, and anaerobes do not grow well in urine and are usually considered nonpathologic contaminants when isolated in urine. Certain age-related factors place older adults at greater risk for UTIs.
The disease is spread through direct skin contact and most commonly affects children living in tropical and subtropical climates in areas with poor hygiene and crowded living conditions (69, 70). The annual global disease burden is estimated to be 111 million cases (5).
Identification. Viridans streptococci can be differentiated from Streptococcus pneumoniae using an optochin test, as viridans streptococci are optochin-resistant; they also lack either the polysaccharide-based capsule typical of S. pneumoniae or the Lancefield antigens of the pyogenic members of the genus.
