Breast milk is made from mother's food intake and some babies, especially reflux or windy babies who are gut sensitive, can be in discomfort from drinking wind forming breast milk. The wrong size and shape teat can make reflux much worse.
Your baby will tell you the bottle nipple flows TOO SLOWLY when you see:
- Sucking 3 or more times before swallowing.
- Pulling off the nipple and crying after a few sucks.
- Biting and tugging on the nipple.
- Losing interest in sucking.
- Falling asleep during feeding without being satisfied.
The teat size for your baby's bottle is important, as it is the teat that regulates the flow of milk to your baby. You don't want them to be engulfed by milk, or struggle to get enough!! As your baby grows, so will their appetite, and you will need to change up your teat sizes.
We recommend changing your bottle teats every two months. So just as you use bigger bottles to hold more milk, you may also need to change your teats to provide a faster flow.
The teat is the most important piece of equipment when it comes to bottle feeding a baby. While teats come in different shapes and sizes, the flow rate will have the greatest influence over how well the baby feeds. Alternatively, if the flow rate is too slow a baby could tire and fall asleep before completing the feed.
Never dried with a towel or anything, just wiped the outside once assembled. I figured the wet/steam was also sterile!
If you use MAM bottles please be aware that if you stand a bottle of hot milk in cold water, the valve in the base draws the cold water from the basin up into the milk. The solution if you want to cool hot bottles is to run them under the cold tap rather than submerge.
Bottles. As long as they're not broken or warped, bottles are fine to reuse. You'll just need to buy some new teats.
To feed comfortably, your baby will need to open their mouth wide and draw in the teat of the bottle . This might be easier for a newborn baby if the base of the teat is a medium size. This is so they can make a tight seal around the teat.
If your baby is on thick formula, the teat opening may be too small and it may collapse as the baby sucks hard to get the milk to flow - The next size teat for the baby's age is recommended if this is occurring.
The enhanced vented base allows for an even drinking flow, helping to reduce colic for 80 Percent * of babies. Each MAM Anti-Colic Bottle is self-sterilising, making them suitable for feeding your baby when you don't have a bottle steriliser to hand.
These nipples fit all MAM bottles and are suitable for all breast milk and formula. The MAM nipple is available in five different flow rates: 0 - extra slow flow (newborn), 1 - slow flow (0+ months), 2 - medium flow (2+ months), 3 - fast flow (4+ months), and x - extra fast flow for thicker liquids (6+ months).
How do you use a MAM self-sterilising anti-colic bottle?
- Fill the base with cool water using the measuring cap provided.
- Place the bottle components on top of the base.
- Heat in the microwave for 3 minutes.
If you notice that your baby is sputtering and choking, switch to a teat with slower flow. Conversely, if your baby is frustrated and sucking hard, change to a teat with faster flow. Teats for newborns have a slow flow and have one hole in the teat. The more holes in the teat, the faster the flow rate.
when I used these I found that it reduced my daughters colic and wind. they are the only ones I used throughout bottle feeding and I would completely recommend them.
