Wifi can be extremely expensive onboard cruise ships and it is notoriously slow. We found rates as hight as $0.95 per minute and the least expensive package was $9.95 for 15 minutes of wifi. Wifi prices and speeds are improving into 2020, but they're still a very costly add-on to any cruise vacation.
Using your cell phone on a cruise is possible. Do cell phones work on cruise ships? Guests are free to utilize their cellular data or connect to our onboard Wi-Fi on any ship. But, please be aware that cellular data used on the ship or in certain ports of call will result in charges from your cell phone provider.

For casual nights, Royal suggests “jeans, polos, sundresses and blouses†but asks guests to “keep swimwear to the Pool Deck.†Shorts and tanks will be accepted for breakfast and lunch, but not in the main dining room at dinner.
Cruise ships do have jails. Called the brig, they are rarely used, but when they are, it is generally for those passengers who commit serious crimes where criminal prosecution is likely, such as drug trafficking. Most guests on a cruise ship will never see the brig or have reason to visit.
It is possible to access the internet on board a ships even when it is hundreds of miles out at sea, thanks to today's technology. It is possible to do use one's own WiFi-capable devices with the service. But for one who does not have their own device, most ships have no shortage of computers for your convenience.
Each guest aged 18 years (21 years in United States of America ports) and older may bring up to 1 litre of wine, Champagne, beer, spirit, or liqueur on board as they embark the ship for the first time only. Buy an Internet Package Ahead of TimeFirst, you already have them taken care of when you board. If you order a drink package or a wi-fi package, you can start using them right away on embarkation day. More importantly, cruise lines offer discounts on packages bought ahead of time. This includes Internet service.
Do Hotspots Work on Cruise Ships? Portable wireless hotspots do work on cruise ships but only when the ship is docked or VERY close to land. Your phone's hotspot will also work on a cruise ship as long as you have cell service, are docked or close to land and roaming is included in your plan.
The navy is adding Wi-Fi hot spots to warships and revisiting policies about how long sailors spend at sea. The head of the navy says the prohibition on internet connectivity was "crazy," considering other navies allow their crews to Facetime with family back home.
No, you do not need an internet package to use the app. Once onboard, connect to ship-WiFi to use the app for free without an internet package or the use of roaming/data services from your carrier.
You will first need a satellite internet provider who can provide access even while you're at sea by installing a satellite dish. If you just want to use the internet when you're in port or at a marina, you can do that by simply accessing wireless hotspots from your computer or cell phone.
