The best way to get from Playa Del Carmen to Tulum is by colectivo. A colectivo is basically a minibus that shuttles people between Tulum and Playa del Carmen. These buses leave when they are full and they are almost always full quickly!
Playa del Carmen, the north beach in Tulum, and Akumal all have lifeguards for the beaches but they are limited. Swim close to shore and it you are not a big swimmer, wear a life vest. Waves will not get to big, this is a not a surfers paradise so swimming can be done every day!

The ocean waters off Playa Del Carmen are beautiful and tempting to dive in with a mask and snorkel. On the north end of Playa Del Carmen just past CTM Avenue otherwise know as 46th Street.
