On May 15, 1783—four months before the Treaty of Paris was signed—the General Assembly of North Carolina gave the name Fayetteville to a new town in Cumberland County, making it the first city in the United States to honor the Marquis.

Fayetteville is home to several museums (military, art, history) and is famous for being the first American city named for the Marquis de LaFayette. It is also the home of the Liberty Point building where the Liberty Point Resolves (a precursor to the American Declaration of Independence) were signed.
“2-6” is a nickname for Fayetteville, which is the home of the 2-6 infantry.

Fayetteville is a nice place to live but there is a lot of traffic and moderate crime. even with this it is a decent place to raise a family. many parks and activities as well as youth sports. for not being such a big town it has everything you could need.
I concur with the above poster, but there's no mountains in Fayetteville..if it's beautiful is merely one persons opinion over anothers. Most of Fayetteville is of a high crime rate, however I would think you would find the small towns outside of the city to fit you well.

Once you're surrounded by “y'all,” you might as well give in. Katz's study said only 56 percent of people in Fayetteville use the word.
