It's not dead but like the earlier games, it tend to focus on Turf Takeover and the weekly modes (portal events in GW2), and other PvP modes like TV are not doing as well.

Re: does plant vs zombies garden warfare 2 get updates still? No more updates. Player base on console is still quite healthy. You can play solo, all modes are available for private play with AI.

PvZ Garden Warfare on PS4 and Xbox One allows you to team up with a friend on the same screen and same console. This Split Screen mode is only available for the Garden Ops game mode. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions do not feature split-screen co-op.
PS+ is not required to play, but you do have to be connected to PSN. Make sure you're signed in by going into Settings > Playstation Network/Account Management.
That's why A Way Out lets you team up with a buddy from your friend list for its split-screen, co-op adventure, even when they don't own the game themselves.
