Playa del Ingles has long been a popular destination for gay tourism in Gran Canaria and Yumbo is probably the epicenter for gay bars and nightlife on the island. At night it's when the Yumbo Centre comes to life, with lots of bars and night clubs attracting visitors of all ages and nationalities.
The resort is an excellent choice for families, who could enjoy a different activity every day of their holiday if they had the energy! Don't expect to find many cultural attractions in Playa del Ingles; the resort is purely for fun and relaxation.

This area is fine for children but it is very, very noisy at all times of the day and night. The beach is lovely and is huge so there's plenty of room for everyone and there are lots of places for families to eat both down on the beach and in the area leading away from it.
Average monthly temperaturesFor the highest temperatures the best time to visit Gran Canaria is between July and September although the sub tropical climate offers sunshine throughout the year and winter months are equally popular with visitors.

Where to Find the Best Nightlife in the Canaries
- Gran Canaria. This is the island where there's something for everyone, but the capital of Las Palmas is where you'll find much of the action on Gran Canaria.
- Lanzarote. Energetic Lanzarote has plenty to offer those that want to let their hair down!
- Tenerife.
In addition to beautiful beaches, the island of Gran Canaria offers a good offer for night entertainment, with a continuous succession of parties and events in a large number of bars and discotheques which remain open until 6 in the morning.
Nightlife in Gran Canaria is late and loud. Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés are the party hotspots. It starts late and goes on all night with most bars opening until 2 am and discos and clubs usually until 6 am.
As a popular holiday destination all year round, sunny Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands is known for its buzzing and exciting nightlife. One of the most famous Gran Canaria nightlife complexes is the Yumbo Centre, the heart of Gran Canaria's gay scene.
Go for Tenerife if you prefer popular tourist destinations with great restaurants and nightlife. On the other hand, Gran Canaria is your best bet if you want to explore the breathtaking landscapes and outstanding beaches.
The least windy Canaries Islands are Gran Canaria and Tenerife but only in certain specific areas. The bad news is that all the Canary Islands are windy BUT there are places more sheltered by wind and with beaches suitable in every season especially in the winter months (December, January and February).
Puerto Rico is the sunniest and warmest place in Gran Canaria choose it if you are looking for:
- beautiful beaches sheltered from the strong wind,
- a perfect place to sunbathe.
Gran Canaria is the warmest Canary Island in December usually, which is why we would recommend it as a destination for a Christmas holiday. The warmest places in Gran Canaria in December are located in the south: Maspalomas, Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogan.
Gran Canaria has long been a firm favourite with families, thanks to its year round sunshine, impressive beaches and bustling resorts. When holidaying here with the little ones, one thing's for sure — you won't be short on things to keep them entertained.
Quieter and considerably more sophisticated than its lively neighbour Playa del Ingles, Maspalomas has a distinctly upmarket feel, with its chic restaurants and cocktail bars and a wide sweep of golden sand backed by towering desert sand dunes.
Maspalomas is a well-known holiday resort on Gran Canaria, which lies just south of Playa del Ingles. Here you'll find resorts, bungalows, and apartments to rent for 1-2 weeks of vacation or longer. I myself have lived here for about 10 months in total and it's a nice place to stay.
Maspalomas is primarily a collection of low rise holiday complexes. Most in the bungalow style. There are shops and restaurants around, especially along the seafront and there is also a commercial centre shops restaurants etc called Faro.
The quickest way to get from Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) to Maspalomas is to taxi which costs €25 - €31 and takes 21 min.
