Tile Sizes & ShapesThe tried-and-true 12†x 12†tiles are still popular, but tiles are tending to be larger and larger. Sizes like 16†x 16â€, 12†x 24†and even 24†x 48†are becoming more prevalent. Large-format tiles have fewer grout lines to clean and help a room look bigger, more open and less busy.
The subway tile trend will continue to be strong in 2021, but not in the way you would expect. Moving away from traditional styles, we are making way for more playful sizes. Expect to see larger and more colourful subway tile design patterns grace the splashbacks and feature walls of many interiors.
This isn't the penny tile's first time in the sun. The tile – especially the hexagonal variety – was popular in homes across the country in the early 20th century. That's while you'll often spot it in historic homes, or in homes where people are trying to create a vintage feel.
Penny tiles can be paired with many materials like concrete, stone, wood and others, which makes them an easy match for any kitchen look.
They vary in color and look as though they were hand-made, though very inexpensive and got them at The Tile Store. Have had them in a few years no, and no problem. Here are a couple of pics. Very easy to keep clean.
Penny tiles. First made of unglazed white porcelain in the early 1900s, the small circular tiles have been a popular choice for bathroom floors for decades. To maintain the timeless style, opt for penny tiles in neutral colors and classic materials.
Backsplashes. Penny tiles are mostly used for backsplashes because this is great way to highlight your décor. First of all, penny tiles can bring a cool textural look even to the simplest décor. Even if you have a very simple white kitchen, a penny tile backsplash will spruce it up.

Penny round tiles can be used for a bathroom backsplash or a shower floor; they can be all one color, a rainbow of colors, or a carefully arranged pattern of just one or two colors.
There is a LOT of grouting to do when it comes to penny tile, so give yourself plenty of time for that. Installing penny tile certainly wasn't the easiest project we've ever completed, nor was it the most difficult.
Non-sanded grout is more like fine dust and is best used in 1/16 in. gaps. Because of the pennies' shape and placement on the penny sheets, the smaller gap where the pennies are closer to each other is about 1/16th of an inch BUT the rest of the gaps between pennies are bigger, therefore the need for sanded grout.
Penny tile costsThis kind of bathroom tile can cost as little as $5 per square foot for white porcelain and up to $10 or more for colorful mosaics.
Mosaic tiles are the most popular choice for shower floor tiles. The small size of the individual tiles means they conform to the slope and shape of the shower floor better than a larger tile would. There are also more grout lines present between mosaic tiles, offering much-needed slip resistance in the shower.
It is also much easier to seal and protect grout from mold, staining and gunk buildup when there is little of it. The easiest to clean shower walls and floors use large tiles with gaps as small as possible between the tiles. Larger tiles are always better for cleaning, so feel free to go a few sizes larger too.
Add a small amount of liquid dish detergent. (For example, mix 3/4 cup of baking soda and 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide with 1 teaspoon of liquid dish detergent.) Using the corner of a rag, apply this homemade cleaner to the grout. Wait 15 minutes and then scrub along the grout line with an old toothbrush.
