Privacy concerns: Some users have cited concerns over privacy because Microsoft has reserved the right to scan files saved in OneDrive to look for what it calls 'objectionable content', such as copyrighted material or explicit images.
The maximum amount of OneDrive storage space is 5TB, which is available with the Office 365 Home plan. It's what I personally use, and I find it to be worth the extra fee, especially if you use Word, Excel, Outlook and other Microsoft software.
While Google Drive offers a greater number of options, Microsoft OneDrive delivers better value for money. For $9.99, Google Drive offers you 2 TB storage while OneDrive delivers 6 TB storage bundled along with other Office 365 products.
One of the worst security holes — the man-in-the-cloud attack — can compromise popular programs like Box, Dropbox, and Microsoft OneDrive. Hackers can steal the security token that gives your computer access to the cloud, even without your password.
OneDrive's major benefit is that it syncs across platforms and integrates with the services and applications you already use, including Windows, Office, Outlook, and more. While it's attractive, OneDrive shouldn't be your only backup solution. Cloud storage can be your offsite copy, but you still need a local backup.
By default, only YOU can see OneDrive filesSo, nothing to worry about confidentiality and security. If you share a OneDrive file with someone, then obviously those people have access. You can always remove the rights at any point of time by going to OneDrive – select file – Sharing.
Uploading files that are unknowingly infected with malware to the cloud can potentially harm your stored data and dramatically increase the risk of infecting any device you use to access that data. So, yes, it's absolutely possible to pick up a computer virus from the cloud.
“Once an organization becomes a ransomware victim, it's faced with a dilemma: pay the ransom, which is never advised, or move forward without the data. If the organization has a proper backup strategy in place to counteract cyberattacks, it can quickly recover by accessing its backed up data and avoid costly downtime.”
Help & Settings > Settings, then Backup > Manage backup. In the Back up your folders dialog, make sure the folders that you want to back up are selected. Select Start backup. You can close the dialog box while your files sync to OneDrive.

There are three ways: Through OneDrive sync client. It synchronizes the files on your computer with OneDrive and copies all the file changes automatically. Therefore, if data on your computer gets corrupted with ransomware, these changes automatically spillover on your OneDrive through synchronization.
Could you use Dropbox as a backup? Well, the answer is both a “yes” and a “no.” Dropbox and its applications cannot differentiate between ransomware encrypted files and regular files. It may also sync other malware infected folders and data to the server. Luckily, Dropbox keeps older versions of your files.
Microsoft 365 uses a common virus detection engine for scanning files that users upload to SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams. The built-in anti-virus capabilities are a way to help contain viruses.
In a well-managed ransomware recovery effort—being executed by an experienced team—a common time frame is one to two weeks.
On your Windows 10 device, open the Windows Security app. Select Virus & threat protection. Under Ransomware protection, select Manage ransomware protection. If controlled folder access is turned off, you'll need to turn it on.
Windows 10 has a built-in ransomware block, you just need to enable it. Turns out there is a mechanism in Windows Defender that can protect your files from ransomware. Windows 10 comes with its own baked-in antivirus solution called Windows Defender, and it is enabled by default when setting up a new PC.
An antivirus is needed to protect your Office 365 even if it already has built-in security options. If you want a free solution to protect you from scams, and identity theft, you can try Avira or Avast.
But backup wasn't designed to protect against cybercrime. In fact, most ransomware attacks target backup systems when they encrypt endpoint data to prevent recovery. Additionally, backup can't determine if data is encrypted or not, so it will backup data encrypted by ransomware.
A new ransomware strain dubbed as “Ransomcloud” encrypts your online email accounts like Office 365 and Gmail in real-time. This means that along with the emails on your computer, your online email messages can be encrypted.
ESET protects you against ransomware.
Right-click on the OneDrive folder and look for the virus checking software you installed on your PC. (On this old Win7 PC I happen to have Microsoft Security Essentials (See 'B'), AdAware and Malwarebytes.) Select the Antivirus software to initiate the scan and the result will appear automatically on screen (See 'C').
