You can easily determine the frequency of your cell phone in your given area. Visit wirelessadvisor.com, enter your zip code, and hit the search button. A list of all the cell phone carriers in your area will appear. Find your carrier on the page and cell phone frequency is listed next to 'SYSTEM:' in MHz.
How does LTE work? LTE changes the current method of moving data to an internet protocol system. Rather than move small amounts of data, as both CDMA and GSM do, it will move large packets of data and streamline the service. Think of it as taking the speedbumps off the roads in your city so you can zoom around faster.
This happens when you're still in LTE areas. The phone is supposed to drop down to 4g or 2g automatically w/o dropping the call. Or leave VOLTE turned off and have no dropped calls, but might not be able to call out in band 12 only areas.
Cell frequencies by provider
| Provider | 3G Frequency | 4G Frequency |
|---|
| AT&T | GSM/UMTS/HSPA+ 1900 MHz, 850 MHz | 1900, 1700/2100, 850, 700 2300 |
| Sprint | CDMA 1900 MHz, 800 MHz | 1900, 850, 2500 |
| T-Mobile | GSM/UMTS/HSPA+ 1900 MHz, 1700/2100 MHz | 1900, 1700/2100 700, 600 |
| Verizon | CDMA 850 MHz, 1900 MHz | 1900, 1700/2100, 850, 700 |
High end phones, like the iPhone, or flagships from Samsung and LG also support a lot of bands. Samsung S7: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 18, 19, 20, 29, 30 and the S8 has 22/24 of them.
iPhone Field Test gives Frequency Usage
- Access the iPhone's Field Test mode by typing *3001#12345#* in the phone's keypad and press dial.
- Select the “Cell Information” menu option to display a summary of all nearby towers.
- Selecting the first tower will take you to a further menu that displays more specific information.
The 4G LTE Signal should be greater than -58 dBm (e.g. -32 dBm). A value of -96 dBm indicates no signal. If the signal is between -82 dBm and -96 dBm, move the device to an alternate location (preferably an outdoor location). The LTE SINR should be greater than 12.5.
4G uses frequencies below 6 GHz while some 5G networks use higher frequencies like around 30 GHz or more. These high frequencies are great for a number of reasons, one of the most important being that they support a huge capacity for fast data.
The most restrictive limits on whole-body exposure are in the frequency range of 30-300 MHz where the human body absorbs RF energy most efficiently when the whole body is exposed.
The 5G spectrum is a range of radio frequencies in the sub-6 GHz range and the millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequency range that is 24.25 GHz and above. The lower frequency bands will be used for less-densely populated areas because data can travel further, though slower, on these frequencies.
In addition, the U.S. FCC recommends that frequencies higher than 5G, such as 95 GHz to 3 THz, be considered for 6G [4-7].
The increased speed is achieved partly by using higher-frequency radio waves than previous cellular networks. However, higher-frequency radio waves have a shorter useful physical range, requiring smaller geographic cells. For wide service, 5G networks operate on up to three frequency bands, low, medium, and high.
Mobile phones communicate by transmitting radio waves through a network of fixed antennas called base stations. Radiofrequency waves are electromagnetic fields, and unlike ionizing radiation such as X-rays or gamma rays, can neither break chemical bonds nor cause ionization in the human body.
The 802.11 standard provides several distinct radio frequency ranges for use in Wi-Fi communications: 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, 3.6 GHz, 4.9 GHz, 5 GHz, 5.9 GHz and 60 GHz bands.
What frequency is Bluetooth?
So the reason your phone says LTE is because you are in an area that has the fastest internet speeds. When you are in an area in which your phone says "4g" it's because you are using a cell phone tower that has the slower, HSPA, internet speed.
First, swipe up on the home screen and tap on the Settings icon, and then tap on the Network & Internet selection. You should then tap on the Mobile Network menu, and then tap on the Advanced option. Finally, tap on the LTE selection for 4G access.
It's recommended to switch off LTE to save battery and to avoid going over your data plan. It's up to you weather you wanna take the advice. There really is no need to turn LTE off unless you're in an area that doesn't have a very good LTE signal, or you have no LTE available at all.
In laymans terms, the difference between 4G and LTE is that 4G is faster than LTE. The reason for this is that 4G meets the technical standards designated for it whereas LTE data transfer speed standard is merely a stopgap measure standard devised until actual 4G speed is realized.
4G LTE vs.Verizon 4G LTE wireless broadband is 10 times faster than 3G — able to handle download speeds between 5 and 12 Mbps (Megabits per second) and upload speeds between 2 and 5 Mbps, with peak download speeds approaching 50 Mbps.
LTE users consume more data than those on 3G, but it's big data plans that drive use more than speed. People with access to an LTE connection consume more mobile data than those with 3G connections, and they appear to rely less on WiFi.
Your phone will show an LTE signal as the phone is connected to a cellular data network. However, you won't be able to load applications that would use data, such as browsing the Internet. The actual "access" to cellular data is controlled by the Republic Wireless application.
Speed. LTE offers lightning-fast connection speed and is suited for dealing with high bandwidth applications on mobile devices. It can provide data transfer speeds between 100Mbps (100 megabits per second) to 1 Gbps (one gigabit per second). However, today's WiFi standard lies between 10 and 25 Mbps.
Q: Who invented 5G? A: No one company or person owns 5G, but there are several companies within the mobile ecosystem that are contributing to bringing 5G to life. Qualcomm has played a major role in inventing the many foundational technologies that drive the industry forward and make up 5G, the next wireless standard.
Go to Settings and then to 'SIM cards & mobile networks'. Check if there is any option as “VoLTE” or “Enhanced 4G”. If yes, then your phone supports VoLTE.
Enable VoLTE on an Android
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Network & Internet.
- Tap Call.
- Tap to enable VoLTE / HD Voice/ Enhanced calling.
5G is expected to be nearly 100 times faster than 4G. Those speeds are possible because most 5G networks are built on super-high-frequency airwaves, also known as high-band spectrum. The higher frequencies can transmit much more data, much faster than on 4G.
