Roads now open:State Highway 5 between Napier and Taupo is now open but extra care is needed. People should expect delays. People should take extra if they need to use this road.
Police have closed SH1 in both directions in the Dome Valley (between Warkworth and Wellsford) following a serious crash. The NZTA has advised the road is expected to be closed for some time while the Serious Crash Unit investigates. Good morning, Auckland.
The NZ Transport Agency is advising that the Rimutaka Hill Road is now open after a slip closed the road earlier this afternoon. Contractors have cleared the slip and both lanes are open. Keep up to date with the latest travel information on NZ Transport Agency's Traffic Map .
State Highway 60: SH60 Takaka Hill is open all day and all night (24/7). Drivers will be able to safely use the one-way sections with the aid of traffic lights. Electronic signs at either side of the hill will update people of any delays or significant issues on the hill.
This route is open 24/7 and takes about 6.5 hours to travel. The Inland Route 70 into Kaikoura via Waiau/Mt Lyford will remain open during any closures of SH1 to the south. It also has a number of worksites in place. Road-users are advised to allow up to 3 hours from Christchurch to Kaikoura using this route.
Rue Lavaud, the road into Akaroa township, is currently open but access is limited due to severe flooding. Please, if you are travelling today, take extreme care on the roads.
SH1 remains closed several places through mid to south Canterbury –
Hinds to Temuka, water 600 mm deep north of the Hinds River bridge.
They are:
- Redcliffs bridge – Double Hill Run Road.
- Pudding Hill Bridge – Arundel Rakaia Gorge Road.
- Ballentynes Bridge – Lowerdowns Road.
- Stour River Bridge – Ashburton Gorge Road.
The Karangahake Gorge on SH 2 between Waihi and Paeroa is closed and will remain closed for the rest of the day. The Athenree Gorge is open to one lane after a slip yesterday. On SH2 at Apata, a slip has caused a section of the road to close between Katikati and Tauranga.
Thames-Coromandel District Council
The Ashburton bridge re-opened to all vehicles today, after being damaged by debris from surging water in the Canterbury floods.
The track is currently open - but caution is advised.
Selwyn District Council have advised that Whitecliffs Bridge on Whitecliffs Road is now open for light vehicles only (cars and utes), but please take care on this bridge.
