Considering the present situation in Afghanistan, India has introduced a new category of e-visa for Afghan nationals to fast-track their applications for entry into the country. These visas will be valid for six months only and it is not clear what will happen after this period elapses.
Smaller numbers of Afghan refugees and asylum-seekers are in India (15,689), Indonesia (7,692) and Malaysia (2,478). Turkey – the world's largest refugee host, with over 38 lakh registered Syrian refugees – has 980 registered Afghan refugees and 1,16,000 Afghan asylum-seekers.
The war ended with the Taliban regaining power after a 19 years and 10 months-long insurgency against allied NATO and Afghan Armed Forces. It was the longest war in United States history, surpassing the Vietnam War (1955–1975) by approximately five months.

All of the early Afghans have acquired citizenship of India in accordance with Indian law. As such, they are widely recognized as Indians. After the start of the Soviet–Afghan War in 1979, approximately 60,000 citizens of Afghanistan took temporary residency in India, most of them being Hindu and Sikh Afghans.
Indians need a visa to travel to Pakistan. At present the Pakistan Embassy does not issue Tourist visas. Visas are only granted for visits to family or friends and for official/business purpose. Visitors visas are issued to Indian Nationals to meet relatives, friends or for any other legitimate purpose.
With the situation rapidly deteriorating in Afghanistan, there are still at least 20 Indian nationals stranded in the country now under Taliban control, sources said. Around 140 Afghan Sikhs and Hindus are also believed to be trapped, awaiting evacuation.
